Reese Witherspoon visited the United Nations in New York City earlier today, and participated in a press conference to mark International Women’s Day. Reese talked about a variety of issues affecting women with Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, the UN Women Executive Director, and actress and playwright Danai Gurira. Read more about how the UN marked International Women’s Day below, and find a video of the press conference. High quality photos are in our Gallery for you. Fantastic to see Reese speaking somewhere as illustrious as the United Nations about a topic she is so passionate about.
Commemoration of International Women’s Day amidst unprecedented global movement for women’s rights
Rural and urban activists take centre stage as Monica Ramirez, Reese Witherspoon, Danai Gurira join the event at the United Nations
Coming on the heels of unprecedented global efforts for women’s rights, equality and justice, International Women’s Day, 8 March, will put a spotlight on the tireless work of activists who have been central to these extraordinary movements worldwide. Under this year’s theme, “Time is Now: Rural and Urban Activists Transforming Women’s Lives”, events around the world will capture the vibrant work of activists and their mobilization for change.
Through marches of solidarity, viral social media campaigns, cultural efforts and powerful grassroots organizing, people across the world are galvanizing for a future that is gender equal. While some of these movements have captured the headlines, other efforts persevere far away from the limelight. Rural and urban activists continue to mobilize, disrupt the status quo, and influence a broad range of policy, legislative and social reforms, from founding projects to end violence at the workplace to providing access to services for ethnic, immigrant and minority women, working every day to leave no one behind.
UN Women Executive Director, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, said: “We know that healthy societies include a wide mix of voices, yet millions of women around the world are being silenced and their potential cramped. The current solidarity movements have to be a tipping point for accountability; an end to impunity and the cyclical poverty of women in both rural and urban areas. Lively political activism from both men and women must target change for those who need it most”.
Reese attended the world premiere of her new family-fantasy-adventure film A Wrinkle In Time in Los Angeles on Monday night! Reese was accompanied by her daughter Ava, who she posed on the red carpet with; Deacon was also in attendance but didn’t walk the red carpet with them. Reese was excited for her kids to see the film because they both read the book in school. Reese looked elegant in a sparkly red dress by Michael Kors and classic wavy hair – I love her look!
Over 200 high quality photos from the red carpet have been added to our Gallery, and further down this post are lots of videos with footage from the event. A big thanks goes to our friends at Adoring Gugu Mbatha Raw and Alicia Vikander Vault for keeping us stocked up with photos.

Comments Off on Preview: Reese at the “A Wrinkle In Time” Premiere last night
Reese attended the A Wrinkle In Time LA premiere last night, looking stunning in a red sparkly dress and accompanied by her daughter Ava. We’ll have full coverage for you tomorrow (lots of photos!), but for now here’s a quick look at the two-some on the red carpet:
Reese attended and spoke at the Watermark Conference for Women in San Francisco on Friday. The conference gathered prominent women from business and entertainment to speak to an audience “to promote, communicate and amplify the influence of women in the workplace and beyond”. Reese spoke about equality, ambition, what being a mother has taught her, and what the best advice she’s been given is. There were lots of snippets of quotes posted by people at the conference, and I’ve compiled a ton of them into a Twitter ‘moment’, which you can find below. The first high quality photos have been added to our Gallery:
Reese Witherspoon brings the power of #MeToo to Watermark Conference in San Jose
Reese Witherspoon says she could have earned a degree in English literature at Stanford University and gone on to study medicine, but the one-time teen actress couldn’t afford the tuition.
So she turned to movies and for a time rose to the highest level of fame and accolades in Hollywood, including winning an Academy Award. But along the way, the star of “Legally Blonde” and “Walk the Line” endured the dark side of a male-dominated, often misogynistic film industry. She suffered sexual assault by an unnamed male director when she was 16 and encountered rapidly diminishing career opportunities once she got into her late 30s.
On Friday, Witherspoon was back in the South Bay, probably more triumphant than ever. At the Watermark Conference for Women Silicon Valley, she took to the stage in front of 6,500 attendees as an emerging Hollywood power player, in her way embodying the promise of the #MeToo movement’s call for cultural transformation.
Witherspoon, as an actress and producer, has accomplished a recent string of hit film and TV shows centered on intriguing female characters, capped in 2017 by HBO’s Emmy-winning series “Big Little Lies.” She’s also one of the most prominent Hollywood women leading the Time’s Up movement to fight sexual misconduct and gender inequality in entertainment and other industries.
“I think this is a crazy new time: This year,” said Witherspoon, flashing her signature bright smile while in conversation with former Teen Vogue editor-in-chief Elaine Welteroth. “I mean, does anyone feel we’re on the precipice of something very different?”
The A Wrinkle In Time cast have been doing lots of press for their film this weekend, including a cast press conference in Hollywood earlier today. Below are videos of the conference, and we have high quality photos in our Gallery for you:
The Cast of A Wrinkle in Time Surprised Guests at the Disneyland Resort and Rocked Minnie Ears
What could make a visit to the Disneyland Resort even more magical? How about seeing Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, and Storm Reid from A Wrinkle In Time in the Parks?! Yes, the cast of the film made a surprise appearance today at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park ahead of the film’s debut on March 9.
The quartet posed for photos in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle with matching sparkly Minnie Ears.
Before that, Storm, Oprah, Mindy, and Reese surprised guests on stage at Disney California Adventure Park’s Sneak Peek Theatre following an exclusive preview of the film. Everyone in the audience received a special “Tessering Ticket” that allowed them to get Disney FASTPASS access to several rides at the Disneyland Resort.
Tickets are on sale now for A Wrinkle in Time! See the film in theaters March 9.
As expected, Reese attended the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles last night. She was of course nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries for her performance in Big Little Lies – the award went to her co-star Nicole Kidman. Alexander Skarsgard also won his category for the show. We send a massive congratulations to the Big Little Lies winners, and the entire cast and crew for their phenomenal run at these awards shows! Reese walked the red carpet with Laura Dern, and was seen cheering for Nicole during the ceremony. Reese opted for a classic, elegant look of an emerald green dress by Zac Posen, with jewellery from Gismondi, Jimmy Choo shoes, and a bag from Tyler Ellis. Initially I wasn’t sure about this look on Reese, but it’s growing on me, and I particularly love her hair and accessories!
We have the first HQ photos for you in our Gallery, and this post will be updated with more coverage in the coming days. Thanks to our friend Sara for help with photos.
