Reese Witherspoon Embarrasses Her Kids by Doing the Running Man in Front of Their School Bus; Aaron Sorkin Dances to Ace of Base
It was Thursday night at dusk, and Aaron Sorkin had just lit up the first cigarette of the evening. “Does this bother anyone?” he asked nearby party guests at the verdant Bel-Air backyard gala benefiting Benjamin Millepied’s L.A. Dance Project. After appearing to humor several females who suggested that the Newsroom creator incorporate more lesbians and guns into his cable-news series—“O.K., but no serial killers,” he deadpanned—the Oscar-winning screenwriter took a beat to consider whether he, the king of dialogue, ever dances.
“The only occasion is when I am alone,” Sorkin told us. “Then I bust out moves all over the place.”
When we asked whether he has a favorite dance track, Sorkin replied, “Anything . . . but all of the true answers will just be embarrassing.” Unable to resist, he added, “I can rock out to ‘I Saw the Sign’ and ‘Walking on Sunshine.’” After we contemplated that visual aloud, Sorkin self-consciously backpedaled, “Those were terribly embarrassing answers that I gave you.”
Several feet away from Sorkin and his unpaid Newsroom consultants were Reese Witherspoon and her husband, Jim Toth. As guests awaited a beautiful candlelit dinner, live auction, and modern-dance performance at the residence of Sutton and Christian Stracke—some partygoers considered the topic of the evening.
“I do a lot of dancing with my kids, and when I get dressed in the morning,” Witherspoon told us, white wine in hand, when we asked about her own dancing rituals. “I have a playlist. A lot of country. A lot of Top 40. My kids love Macklemore, so that.”
Reese made a live appearance on Good Morning America today, where she talked about her new movie Mud, and spoke openly about her recent arrest. USA Today reported on the interview in the article below, and the video is online now too:

The actress spoke about the arrest for the first time on ‘GMA.’
Reese Witherspoon sat down with George Stephanopoulos for a live, Good Morning America interview Thursday, her first since her April 19 arrest in Atlanta. Her husband, Jim Toth, was charged with DUI. She was charged with disorderly conduct.
Getting right to the news, George asked the actress what happened.
“It’s one of those nights,” said Reese, 37. “We went out to dinner in Atlanta, had one too many glasses of wine. We thought we were fine to drive and we absolutely were not. And it’s just completely unacceptable. And we are so sorry and embarrassed. And we know better.”

There are some actresses who are so adored on screen, you almost don’t want to meet them, in case the reality doesn’t live up to the fantasy. Reese Witherspoon is one. This is the woman who taught us the ‘bend and snap’ in Legally Blonde, played Rachel’s little sister in Friends, and won an Oscar as resilient, conflicted June Carter in Walk The Line.
Sitting in the bar of the Beverly Hills Hotel where we are to meet for afternoon tea, I wonder: how can the real Reese Witherspoon possibly compete? Then, she strides in, all impenetrably dark sunglasses and stylish black sweater thrown over a red Carven dress.
For a second, she looks intimidating, but then the glasses come off, that megawatt smile comes on and I relax. She actually is the charming southern belle we know and love, her conversation peppered with ‘y’know’ and ‘y’all’.
‘Yeah, people definitely hug me a lot, and hand me their babies,’ she says of her girl-next-door image. ‘But it’s better than people throwing stuff at me, right? I’m always met with smiles.’
Many of you will probably have read about Reese’s recent trouble with the law. Glamour Reese Witherspoon maintains a strict policy on focussing only on Reese’s professional career, but as Reese has released a statement on the issue we felt it was appropriate to post her words. Unless Reese speaks further on the issue then this will be the only post we make about this. We hope you will respect Reese’s right to privacy at this time.
“Out of respect for the ongoing legal situation, I cannot comment on everything that is being reported right now. But I do want to say, I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. We had a fantastic surprise the other day when Reese herself joined Twitter! This was confirmed by her good friend @ChelseaHandler, and the account was verified soon after. Four former Best Actress winners will converge on stage at this year’s Oscar telecast, the show’s producers said Wednesday.
Halle Berry, Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon will present an award, although the show’s producers were mum about whether or not they will take the stage together. If they do, it may mean a return to a format that was deployed and favorably received during the 2009 broadcast.
During that show, former winners of acting awards appeared on stage together to give short speeches praising each of the nominees. That was revived in a slightly modified form in the 2010 telecast, in which co-stars or celebrity friends of the various nominees were called on to pay tribute before the winner was announced.
Traditionally, the previous winner of an acting award reads out the nominees and hands out the statue without assistance.
Berry won the Oscar for her performance as a grieving widow in “Monster’s Ball” (2001), Bullock for her work as a feisty housewife and football fan in “The Blind Side” (2009), Kidman for playing a depressive Virginia Woolf in “The Hours” (2002) and Witherspoon for channeling June Carter Cash in “Walk the Line” (2005).
Other previously announced Oscar presenters including Mark Wahlberg, Channing Tatum, Daniel Radcliffe and “Marvel’s The Avengers” cast members Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo.
The Oscars will be hosted by Seth MacFarlane and will air on Feb. 24.

Last weekend, Reese and her husband attended Sean Penn’s Haiti Benefit Gala in Los Angeles. They were two of many celebrity guests attending the event to raise money for Penn’s Haiti charity. US Weekly says that Reese bid $125,000 for something, although the article further down this post gives a different figure and more details.
