Reese Witherspoon, Ted Sarandos Co-Hosting Fundraiser for Gavin Newsom
Several of Hollywood’s politically minded elites will pay up to $29,200 apiece to gather Friday at the Pacific Palisades home of Reese Witherspoon and husband Jim Toth to raise funds for Gavin Newsom’s campaign in his run for governor of California.
Beyond Witherspoon and Toth, the evening’s event is being co-hosted by Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos and his wife, Nicole Avant, the former U.S. ambassador to the Bahamas.
Other co-hosts include TV producer Steven Bochco and his wife, Dayna; Phoenix Pictures CEO Mike Medavoy and his wife, Irena; TV producer Ryan Murphy and his husband, David Miller; and ICM founding partner Chris Silbermann and his TV producer wife, Julia Franz.
The minimum “suggested contribution” to attend the gathering, according to the invitation, is $1,000, though $5,000 gets you a “co-host photo reception.” A “VIP clutch” goes for $10,000, and $29,200 is the “primary maximum” by law.
Newsom, a Democrat, is California’s lieutenant governor and was mayor of San Francisco from 2004-2010. He was an early advocate for the legalization of marijuana and same-sex marriage and is a vociferous critic of President Donald Trump.
The politician hosted The Gavin Newsom Show on Al Gore’s now-defunct Current TV and is married to Jennifer Siebel Newsom, an actress who produced the feminist-themed documentary movies Miss Representation and The Mask You Live In.

“What are you going to #PassTheBall for?”
That’s the question Julia Roberts asks in a fun PSA supporting the National Women’s Soccer League. Lifetime has teamed up with an all-star celebrity lineup including the mother of three, Ellen DeGeneres, Reese Witherspoon, James Corden, Zendaya and David Beckham for the special campaign.
“By passing the ball, you will help get the word out about these amazing athletes and the game they love,” Roberts says in the video.
For the Oscar winner, soccer is close to her heart: her daughter and two sons all play the sport. “On weekends we usually hit about four games on Saturday and sometimes one on Sunday,” she shares exclusively with PEOPLE. “It’s thrilling to see a whole group of kids grow up.”
As for life as a soccer mom, Roberts calls it “a total commitment.” “It has to be a family commitment for sure,” she adds. “It’s wonderful to be outside watching kids play the game they love — watching them grow from little kids playing on half a field to young men and women playing their hearts out.”
Asked why it’s especially empowering see girls kick the ball alongside her daughter, Roberts says, “I remember growing up my brother played soccer in high school and we had a had soccer team, but I didn’t know any girls who played soccer back in ye olden days.
“So it’s great to see everybody have an opportunity to participate in what is in our house our favorite sport.”

The one-hour telethon, originally organized to help raise funds for victims of Hurricane Harvey, has since been expanded to also raise money for those affected by Hurricane Irma. It will air September 12th at 8 p.m. ET (and then again at 8 p.m PT) on ABC, NBC, CBS, BET, Bravo, CMT, E!, Fox, HBO, iHeart Media, MTV, Oxygen, SiriusXM, Univision and Westwood One.
Those without TV access can also stream the even live on AOL, Apple Music, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Beats 1 and Huffington Post.
The event’s other performances and appearances include: Blake Shelton, Michael Strahan, Barbra Streisand, Reese Witherspoon, Jamie Foxx, Matthew McConaughey, Julia Roberts, Adam Sandler, Ryan Seacrest, Karlie Kloss and Rob Lowe.
Country legend George Strait is also expected to join the show live via satellite from his benefit concert in San Antonio at 9 p.m. ET.
Proceeds from the fundraising efforts will go the following charities: Rebuild Texas Fund, ASPCA, Best Friends, Direct Relief, Feeding Texas, Feeding Florida, Habitat for Humanity, Save the Children and United Way.

Jamie Foxx Announces Telethon for Hurricane Harvey, Reportedly Featuring Reese Witherspoon and Blake Shelton
Hollywood’s A-listers continue to step up in the wake of Hurricane Harvey’s devastating impact on Houston, Texas.
On Tuesday, Texas native Jamie Foxx announced on Instagram that there will be a telethon on Sept. 12 to raise money for those in need.
“Just wanted to let everyone in Texas know, we got you,” Foxx says, adding that he’s donated $25,000 to GlobalGiving, a non-profit organization that provides a global crowdfunding platform for grassroots charitable projects. “From a fellow Texan, my heart goes out. My prayers go out. September 12 we have a telethon that we’re doing. We’ll give you more details, so we can raise as much money as we can for everybody down there.”
The Sept. 12 telethon will take place simultaneously in Los Angeles, New York and Nashville, and will be aired by all the major networks for one hour, according to TMZ. The star-studded event is reportedly being organized by rapper Bun B and the same team behind the widely praised Ariana Grande One Love Manchester concert.
Reese Witherspoon and Blake Shelton will reportedly host from Nashville on Sept. 12, while the Los Angeles portion will be hosted by Foxx and tentatively Hilary Duff, who was born in Houston.
Fellow Houston native Michael Strahan is being tapped to host the New York portion of the telethon, TMZ also reports, and organizers are also hoping to secure Kelly Rowland as well as Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons — both born and raised in Houston as well.
Stars such as Kevin Hart, Dwayne Johnson and the Kardashian family have already donated to Hurricane Harvey relief, most notably Sandra Bullock, who donated $1 million to the Red Cross on Tuesday.

Last night Reese attended the annual Tiffany & Co. Blue Book Gala in New York City. Reese looked elegant in a floor-length teal gown by Brandon Maxwell, accessorising with Tiffany jewellery. She posed on the red carpet with other celebrities including Claire Danes, Jennifer Hudson, Hayley Bennett and Ruth Negga, and spoke to reporters about why she loves Tiffany’s and her jewellery must-haves. The company are backing an initiative to stop global trafficking for elephant ivory, and Reese voiced her support for this too.
