In between all the Big Little Lies promotion, we’ve been continuing our work on the TV Appearances section of the Gallery. Since that last update, we’ve completed (as much as possible – depending on photos/videos available!) the years of 2008, 2009 and 2010. Reese did a lot of TV interviews in these years, to promote big budget movies Four Christmases, Monsters Vs Aliens and How Do You Know – and a few for the lower-budget Penelope! In between movie promotion, she also made some appearances to highlight her work with Avon. I particularly loved her looks on Leno & Jonathan Ross in 2009! Lots of screencaptures and stills in the Gallery for you:

Back in 2003 Reese lent her voice to documentary Freedom: A History of Us – I’ve never read much about this project before, so thought I’d do some reading into it. It was a 16 part PBS documentary mini-series telling the story of freedom in America, and based on the book of the same name by Joy Hakim. Reese was one of 20 Oscar winners to voice characters within the story – from what I’ve watched her parts were very small. She was in a total of 3 episodes, and I’ve found 2 available online – which you can watch below:
Episode 3 – ‘Liberty For All’ (14 mins in)
‘The End Of The World’ – the 3rd episode of Big Little Lies‘ 2nd season – aired last night, and was a more low-key episode compared to last week although still had some new developments. Madeline had two particularly notable scenes and we learnt more about her background. The dynamic between Madeline and Ed is always a highlight for me and I just love watching their relationship develop – one of the things I love most about Big Little Lies is how complex and layered all the characters are, and how no-one is simply either ‘good’ or ‘bad’. Madeline’s school speech scene gave me flashbacks to Elle Woods in Legally Blonde (albeit a little less positive and motivating 😉 )!

HBO tease the shows and films premiering and ending on the channel in July 2019, with the season 2 finale of Big Little Lies airing on July 21st:
The 2nd episode of Big Little Lies Season 2 aired last night, and was a busy episode! The tone of this episode felt different, with explosive events and revelations filling up the episode. The focus was on Bonnie & Renata, with Madeline present throughout sorting things out for people – and then her own heartbreaking scene at the end. Again, her scene with Meryl Streep was just fantastic!

Reese is featured in ‘This Changes Everything’, a new documentary about the under-representation of women in media from the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media. She is interviewed within the documentary, to talk about how she “started developing these projects with smart, articulate capable women” due to the lack of projects for women. The documentary will be shown on July 22nd in New York and California – find more information at the official site. Watch the trailer below (although Reese is not featured in it):
Told first-hand by some of Hollywood’s leading voices behind and in front of the camera, THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING is a feature-length documentary that uncover what is beneath one of the most confounding dilemmas in the entertainment industry – the underrepresentation and misrepresentation of women. It takes an incisive look at the history, empirical evidence, and systemic forces that foster gender discrimination and thus reinforce disparity in our culture. Most importantly, the film seeks pathways and solutions from within and outside the industry, and around the world.
