The New York Post reports that writer Leslie Dixon (The Thomas Crown Affair) is warm to the idea of a big-screen version of the short lived television series Honey West for 20th Century Fox. The fox who wants in on the honey? Reese Witherspoon.
Honey West was a smoking-hot private eye with a lipstick walkie-talkie, earrings that doubled as smoke bombs and a way with judo. She was like Honor Blackman’s Pussy Galore in Goldfinger – but even sexier!
Witherspoon’s screen characters – even the dizzy-but-not-dumb heroine of Legally Blonde – are famously determined. She won the Oscar for her true grit performance as June Carter Cash in Walk the Line. She does not suffer fools, on- or off-screen. She once told me, “I’ll never play a victim.” Reese could bring a lot of no-nonsense sizzle to this project. Writer Dixon wants to keep the movie retro – ’60s – and true to the dark, rather perverse feel of the show.
There’s many a slip twixt the concept and the first day of shooting, but Witherspoon is said to be looking super-sexy and dynamic these days; looking in fact very likely to pull a gun and kick your butt.
There is no official word from Ms. Witherspoon or her representatives so for now it’s only hear say, but will be sure to report if we hear otherwise!
Anwar El-Ibrahimi (Omar Metwalley) is an Egyptian-born man who is suspected of terrorism. When he disappears while on a flight from South Africa to Washington, D.C., his American wife (Reese Witherspoon) makes her way to Washington to try to uncover the reasons behind his disappearance.
As she is searching for answers, CIA analyst Doug Freeman (Jake Gyllenhaal) is stationed at a detention facility somewhere outside the United States. When he sees the unorthodox interrogation of El-Ibrahimi, he questions his assignment and becomes caught up in the struggle to secure the man’s release.
Rendition is directed by Gavin Hood, who previously attained recognition for helming the Academy Award-winning Tsotsi. This is his first effort at a major motion picture release, and it should be fascinating to see its reception. It’s a movie that is packed with talent, including Academy Award winners Witherspoon, Meryl Streep and Alan Arkin as well as recent Oscar nominee Gyllenhaal. It’s likely to be positioned as an awards contender as it nears release.

According to Female First, Reese has had a classy new designer handbag named after her. Mary Norton was looking for a tag for a new clutch accessory when she saw the elegant actress on the red carpet at an awards show.
The designer says: “It has a clean, classic look. It made me think of Reese, who is a down-to-earth mom and an elegant woman.”
The new leather bag, which features a jewelled clasp, can be bought at Norton’s Los Angeles store for around $1,000.

IMDb user “thewirerules” was able to attend an early screening of Rendition and shares some details of the film in this thread. Tidbits include that Reese’s role is indeed the leading role and her performance is great, as expected. Meryl Streep and Reese share one strong scene in the film, while our girl has no screentime with Jake Gyllenhaal.
Rendition is a very solid film with strong performances and direction, a taut script, and great cinematography and locations. Some scenes can be hard to watch, but the various intertwining storylines pay off and are well edited, and the movie runs on a steady pace. Definetly a possible Oscar contender. The audience seemed to like the movie quite a lot when they gave it a good round of applause at the end. This version of the movie was pretty much in the final stages in terms of editing, etc., and certainly there will be some fine tuning going on.
The annual “Celebrity 100 Power List” by Forbes Magazine has listed Oprah Winfrey as the number one most influential and highest earning person of this year. Reese listed at a very respectable #80 this year. Her web rank being #47, press rank at #62 and her pay at $7 mil.
It’s been a tough year for the Oscar-winning actress. Not only did she endure a very public split with husband Ryan Phillippe, but she backed out of Bunny Lake is Missing just weeks before filming was scheduled to start. Then she fired her agent. This winter, she’ll star in Rendition with Jake Gyllenhaal, her first film since winning her Academy Award last year.
