Reese Witherspoon’s Draper James Line Is Releasing a Dress Just for PeopleStyle Readers
Reese Witherspoon’s clothing line, Draper James, is one of our absolute faves, y’all!
The star, 41, has brought her signature southern-inspired style mainstream with her line of dresses, totes, skirts and more that can be worn everywhere, from a backyard BBQ to a day at the office.
“When you look good, you feel good,” Witherspoon says of her upbeat style. “It’s better to be overdressed than underdressed…. If you’re pulled together, you’re definitely going to fit in with any crowd.”

Inside Vanity Fair’s First Founders Fair with Reese Witherspoon, Sasheer Zamata, Tory Burch, and More
At Vanity Fair’s inaugural Founders Fair last April, entrepreneurial women—including Tory Burch, Reese Witherspoon, and the co-chairs of the Women’s March—talked about what it takes.
While there’s ample evidence that there are still ceilings for professional women to shatter (Exhibit A: the White House), female entrepreneurs are having a moment. This was plain to witness at the first Vanity Fair Founders Fair, at 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, in April, where risk-takers, business leaders, and investors shared stories of having ignored naysayers and turning bright ideas into businesses. Tory Burch, in conversation with Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter, explained why she firmly believes retail still has a place—alongside e-commerce—in her eponymous fashion empire. The national co-chairs of the Women’s March told how they turned angst from disparate Facebook groups into 1.2 million placard-wielding, pink-hat-wearing demonstrators the day after Donald Trump’s inauguration. Reese Witherspoon—a producer, Oscar-winning actress, and the founder of lifestyle brand Draper James—revealed how she still isn’t taken as seriously as her male counterparts. “A guy has one hit and they say he deserves an Oscar. One guy will have a hit at Sundance and he gets Jurassic Park,” she said. “A woman has a hit at Sundance and it takes her like six more movies to get a big movie.” Indeed, grit was a theme of the event. Julie Deane, founder of the Cambridge Satchel Company, described how she started her business by calling a shopkeeper every 35 minutes for almost two days until he revealed the name of a key supplier. “This is where being the most tenaciously annoying person and the best nagger in the world really comes into its own,” she declared. With founders such as Deane growing in force, the glass ceiling doesn’t stand a chance.

Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon to Star in Series About TV Morning Shows
More than a decade after Friends wrapped its run, star Jennifer Aniston is plotting her return to the small screen.
In one of the largest TV packages to date, Aniston and Reese Witherspoon are attached to star in an untitled series exploring morning shows and the larger New York media scene that they inhabit.
The package, which has not yet hit the market, is expected to be taken out to premium cable outlets like HBO and streaming services including Netflix. Given the stars attached, it is expected to draw significant interest from multiple bidders.
The project is based on an original idea and is being spearheaded by former HBO head of drama Michael Ellenberg and his newly launched film and TV production company Media Res. Jay Carson (House of Cards) is attached to pen the script and exec produce. Academy Award nominee Steve Kloves (Wonder Boys, Harry Potter) will executive produce. Witherspoon will also executive produce alongside her Hello Sunshine banner topper Lauren Levy Neustadter. Aniston also will be credited as an executive producer.
Aniston and Witherspoon, who memorably guest starred as Aniston’s younger sister on Friends, have remained friends over the years.

Reese Witherspoon, Olivia Culpo Go Barefoot at Sunset Hamptons Yacht Party
The intimate affair toasted the latest collection of L.A.-based label Haney on fashion site Forward.
Thick humidity enveloped the normally temperate Long Island coast Friday evening as friends of designer and entrepreneur Mary Alice Haney boarded a small shuttle boat in Amagansett, N.Y., for a sunset cocktail party toasting her eponymous brand.
The venue for the affair, which was held in collaboration with fashion retail site Forward by Elyse Walker, was the Emelina — a 167-foot custom-built yacht owned by the Tennessee native’s parents.
“We’re going on a yacht,” cooed actress Olivia Culpo. She was poured into a lipstick red jumpsuit from the L.A.-based brand, which launched in 2013 and is partly inspired by Haney’s career as a celebrity stylist working with Taylor Swift and others. Looking more appropriately dressed for Studio 54 than the high seas, Culpo and her group of picture-perfect girlfriends paraded down the lengthy dock of the Devon Yacht Club like it was a catwalk.
As the tender reached the Italian-built vessel, a crew member announced the boat’s no-shoes policy, much to the chagrin of the well-heeled passengers. “This is my first trip out to the Hamptons this year,” remarked Culpo, who next month begins filming an action film with Bruce Willis and will open a family-run restaurant in her native Rhode Island. “It’s called The Back Forty — I’m part owner, but I’ve dubbed myself social media manager for now.”
Haney, who lavished her welcoming southern hospitality to all on the deck, explained this event marked the end of a weeklong girls’ trip that cruised to Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard and finally The Hamptons. The accomplished group included Reese Witherspoon, La Ligne founder Meredith Melling and Sprinkles Cupcakes founder Candace Nelson. “I feel so lucky to have these women in my life who are friends, but also incredibly bad-ass boss ladies.”
Witherspoon, wearing a gem tone green Haney frock, lit up at the mention of her “Big Little Lies” Emmy nomination — the actress’ first. “I’ve never made a TV show before so it’s exciting. The rules [for TV] have changed because the audiences have changed — they watch more television than they do movies, but it’s all about finding your female audience.”

The THR 100: Hollywood Reporter’s Most Powerful People in Entertainment
The second annual ranking brings new blood (Sony’s Tony Vinciquerra), stars who also produce (welcome, Reese!) and two Jenkinses (Barry and Patty), along with the movers and multihyphenates who make the town run and the stock prices soar.
Who in this town has actual power, anyway? In short, the people on this list do.
In compiling the THR 100, our second annual ranking of Hollywood’s most powerful people, we used one overarching criterion: the power of “yes.” THR 100 essentially is a greenlight list: who has the authority to take projects from a no to a yes or the talent and track record to make what he or she wants. There are objective factors, like the size of an executive’s empire (owning it helps, a la Shari Redstone), access to vast sums of money (both Megan Ellison and David Ellison) or the number of series a showrunner has on the air and their ratings (congrats, Ryan Murphy).
Then there’s the subjective element of heat around town: “juice,” for lack of a better word. The Murdoch family’s 21st Century Fox is far more profitable than Netflix, but Reed Hastings and Ted Sarandos rank higher because there’s no company more the subject of Hollywood fascination and envy these days than theirs. Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman probably will end up grossing less worldwide than F. Gary Gray’s The Fate of the Furious, but the fact that Jenkins broke ground for female directors lands her (and not him) on the list. And so on.
In dozens of off-the-record conversations with top players, our team got an honest assessment of the pecking order at TV networks and film studios, the influence of talent agencies and the true value of stars (hint: It helps a lot when you also produce). Then the internal debate began: We started with 2016’s list but weren’t beholden to it. Some have risen significantly (producer Jason Blum rockets from 98 to 40 thanks to the surprise hits Get Out and Split), some have dropped (STX’s Bob Simonds and Adam Fogelson had a rough year at the box office) and some have fallen off entirely (sorry, Ben Affleck). And while Hollywood’s upper echelon remains overwhelmingly white and male, it’s a small sign of increasing inclusiveness that the number of women on the list (24, up from 19) and people of color (17, up from 10) are on the rise.
So congrats to everyone on the THR 100. You have actual power in this town.

Reese Witherspoon on Southern charm and ‘carrying the baton’
Reese Witherspoon ladled on her Southern charm to host a luncheon in L.A. with Porter magazine’s Lucy Yeomans on Tuesday to celebrate the launch of Draper James on the e-tailer. As Jennifer Garner, Molly Sims, Camilla Alves, Rachel Zoe, Ali Larter and more noshed on friend chicken, strawberry shortcake and sweet tea, the Oscar winner took five to chat with WWD about why Southern women look so good and her latest Hollywood projects.
WWD: Why was getting on Net-a-porter so important to you?
Reese Witherspoon: The global reach is so important. I believe the world is a small place now — we need to be reaching out to all our customers. I think everyone wants a story to be told. I’m telling a story about the American South, which is where I grew up, and the story of my grandmother, who taught me about fashion, getting your hair done and also presenting your best self to the world. We are out there to celebrate those moments that are maybe forgotten, like the baby shower, the wedding party, the garden party. Sometimes you just want to look pretty.
WWD: Why do Southern women always seem to go the extra distance?
R.W.: We’re taught from a very young age to do our hair. Also that color makes you happy. Putting your best self forward but also not taking yourself too seriously. Having fun with fashion. I love the idea that fashion doesn’t have to be about New York or Los Angeles. It’s this whole wide range of people all over our country that are just enjoying fashion and want to see themselves reflected in the media and in the fashion that’s created.
WWD: Even this beautiful house looks Southern.
R.W.: It belongs to my friend Benton Weinstock. She’s from Arkansas. I have my girls from the South who live in Los Angeles that I call my Southern mafia. We are always doing Kentucky Derby parties or having Christmas parties where we all sing carols. It’s really nice to have a bunch of friends here from the South. And it’s nice in the middle of the day, some lunch.

She’s an Oscar winner, a producer and runs her own label, but Reese Witherspoon isn’t one to rest on her laurels. She tells Jennifer Dickinson about making Hollywood sit up and listen.
Let’s imagine for a moment what it would be like to be friends with Reese Witherspoon; an incredible multitasker who seems to live in a world where the days consist of 30 hours instead of 24. Firstly, she will look you straight in the eye, then you’ll get that grin, the one that should be an addendum to Maria von Trapp’s My Favorite Things, so great is its power to radiate warmth. You’ll chat over coffee (strong) and you’ll mention the novel you’re reading, leading to an inner-fire-starting discussion about female identity and culminating with Witherspoon ordering the book from Amazon (she’s a very good customer). Then there will be the invitation to the baby shower she’s throwing for a mutual friend, her supportive shout-out on social media when your project gets off the ground, and the late-night text checking your son’s hospital appointment went Ok. And, somehow, instead of making you feel less than, you won’t resent her in the slightest because she’s not perfect and nor does she want to be: she’s just as likely as you to be late for the school pick up, or order margaritas at 5pm after a trying day. She’s on your side and that makes you want to be on hers.
It’s a personality recipe – insight, ambition, diligence, charm – that has made Witherspoon, 41, one of Hollywood’s most successful stars. And, so far, 2017 has been a great year, even by her standards. She’s just wrapped filming on Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time, directed by the ever-impressive Ava DuVernay; is celebrating her fashion line Draper James going global via its launch on Net-a-porter; and then there’s Big Little Lies, the Tv phenomenon that actually merited the phrase ‘everyone’s talking about it’ earlier this year.

Reese Witherspoon Hosts Southern-Style Ladies Lunch to Launch Draper James x Net-a-Porter
Magnolias floating in the pool, a julep bar and a bluegrass band set the scene. Southern hospitality came to Beverly Hills on Tuesday afternoon when Reese Witherspoon hosted a ladies lunch to celebrate the launch of her brand Draper James on global ecommerce site Net-a-Porter.
Witherspoon borrowed her friend Benton Weinstock’s house for the shindig, welcoming guests as they were ferried by golf cart up the driveway. Benton, who hails from Arkansas, is a member of what Witherspoon affectionately refers to as her “Southern mafia.”
“We always sit around and work together to come up with the phrases for my tote bags. One of my recent favorites is ‘What would Dolly do?’ the Big Little Lies star said, referring to the Southern queen Dolly Parton.
Witherspoon launched her clothing line Draper James in 2015, inspired by her Southern roots in Nashville and named after her grandparents Dorothea Draper and William James Witherspoon.
The range includes such ladylike styles as “Love Y’all” totes ($165), cherry-bedecked sweaters ($135) and the magnolia-embroidered sundress ($550) Witherspoon was wearing to the luncheon, where that Southern delicacy to end all delicacies, fried chicken, was served, along with gilded pineapple upside-down cakes.
Witherspoon said she was ecstatic to have the line launch on Net-a-porter, a fashion website she’s been a loyal customer of since its inception, when she realized she could “order Gucci and Chloe and get it in a day with fancy London people picking it out!”
Guests included L.A. designer Monique Lhuillier, who is readying her first collection to show during Paris couture week next month; handbag designer Clare Vivier, who was carrying a pouch in gingham print, the pattern of the afternoon; and Hollywood friends including Jennifer Garner, Camila Alves, Shannon Rotenberg and more.
Net-a-porter editor-in-chief Lucy Yeomans was in town for the launch, which she deemed a success, noting a few styles had sold out in the first 24 hours of going live on the site. It was the second time in a month that the London-based site had touched down in Los Angeles. The first was to celebrate a collaboration with Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop timed to Mother’s Day.
