Cutesy Reese (wearing a “LBD” 😉 ) was on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno last night and captures and a clip have been added to the site. Reese was her adorable self talking about her Doctor parents, reality shows & soaps and of course Penelope. The romantic fantasy movie Penelope is the first film Reese Witherspoon’s production company, Type A Films, developed from the ground up. Oscar-winner Witherspoon (Walk the Line) believes producing is a natural progression for an actor, and she’s determined to continue putting out films under her Type A banner. “I’ve been on sets for 15 years now [and] just being a part of the filmmaking process you absorb so much that you don’t even realize you are looking at. Whether it is lighting, or shot composition, or casting, you realize how important every element is,” offered Witherspoon.
Penelope tells the story of a young girl from a wealthy family who’s cursed with a pig’s nose. Only when someone of her own class and status accepts her for who she is will she be free of the horrible curse. Christina Ricci plays the part of Penelope, although at one point in the process Witherspoon considered playing the title role herself. “I thought about it, but I got busy with other commitments and the movie ad to go forward. We decided to cast it, but I always knew I wanted to be in it in some capacity. It was kind of fun for me to get to play a smaller character and get to be a broad,” laughed Witherspoon.

MoviesOnline sat down recently with Reese Witherspoon at the Los Angeles press day for her new movie, Penelope, a modern day romantic tale about a girl coming to terms with who she is. Witherspoon produces and stars in the film which is directed by Mark Palansky from a script by Leslie Caveny. She also talks about Four Christmases, Children’s Defense Fund (in which she says she is going to New Orleans again next month), the Oscars, and so much more. Be sure to check it out!
Penelope Wilhern (Christina Ricci, Sleepy Hollow), born to wealthy socialites (Catherine O’Hara, Home Alone, and Robert E. Grant, Gosford Park), is afflicted by the Wilhern spell that can only be broken when she finds love. Hidden away in her family’s estate, the lonely girl meets a string of suitors in her parent’s futile attempt to break the curse. Each eligible bachelor is enamored with Penelope and her sizable dowry … until her curse is revealed.

Reese has revealed that she wants to try her hand at directing. Already a celebrated producer, Witherspoon desperately wants to make a movie. How exciting! I certainly hope Reese’s wish will come one day with the right project!
She was inspired by fellow actress Sarah Polley, who made her directorial debut with acclaimed movie Away From Her.
The film earned veteran star Julie Christie an Oscar nomination for her role as a woman suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
“I’m inching toward directing, I have to say. Be very afraid. I’m tackling that next, but it’s very inspiring to see Sarah Polley, who I used to audition with, direct Julie Christie hopefully to an Oscar. I think that’s really inspiring.”

In a movie, people. She wants to shoot someone…in a movie.
See, the lack of strong roles for women in Hollywood was just one of the subjects that got Reese Witherspoon all revved up when talking to us this weekend about the movie she produced and appears in, Penelope.
It’s a darling fairy tale about a girl (Christina Ricci) with a pig nose. And Reese wanted Christina from the get-go—the two grew up together on the audition circuit. Aw! (And just a quick side note: Things she did not discuss with us include (a) the passing of Heath Ledger and (b) the man she is often photographed with, Jake Gyllenhaal.)
So, oh well, back to shooting people.
Here’s what she said about shoot-’em-up movies wherein the leading man gets to take down the bad guy. “Why does the guy get to shoot him? I want the girl to shoot him!” she said, laughing intermittently. “I love watching Angelina Jolie kick ass in Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and I can’t wait to see her in Wanted. I would love to shoot someone. In the knee cap or something, just to stop them!”

Reese Witherspoon has a bone to pick — the Oscar-winner is sick of being known as Hollywood’s most obsessively organised actor.
The 31-year-old says she often regrets giving her film company the name Type A Productions — a tongue-in-cheek choice the self-confessed perfectionist made many moons ago.
“People immediately assume that I have a very controlling personality,” Witherspoon says with a sigh.
“It’s up for interpretation that term — Type A — and to me it was just about getting things done and being diligent about them happening, which didn’t seem very negative, but sometimes people think of it as a very uptight personality trait.
“I’m just much more easygoing than that — I go with the flow.”

As you may know, we don’t generally post any gossip-y articles regarding Reese’s personal life. I will, however, post this one as it features an official statement from Reese’s rep.
A British magazine has “exclusively” revealed that actor’s Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal are engaged – prompting Witherspoon’s representative to release a statement denying any truth to the report, labeling it “absolutely false”.
According to Reveal magazine, the Brokeback Mountain star asked Witherspoon to marry him during “a romantic trip to Rome last October”, however, the magazine claims that the Legally Blonde star only recently accepted it.
“It’s absolutely false,” Witherspoon’s rep tells US Weekly magazine
“There’s not one ounce of truth to it.”

Good job fans – Reese was named Favorite Female Movie Star yesterday at the People’s Choice Awards! It was announced in a televised program that was drastically altered due to the Hollywood writers strike. Instead of receiving their statuettes to great applause during a traditional awards ceremony, the recipients taped acceptance speeches for a canned broadcast that aired on CBS.
Reuters reports that:
The event’s organizers were forced to change their plans last month because the Writers Guild of America is refusing to allow many awards shows to hire union writers and actors are not crossing the writers’ picket lines.
Depp and Witherspoon were named favorite male and female movie star. Neither was cited for any particular film, though Depp was in theaters last year with Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, which won two other awards. Witherspoon appeared in only one movie, the box office bomb Rendition.
