Reese Witherspoon gets a little disordered
In ‘Water for Elephants,’ the ordered actress worked with unpredictable animals, including a horse lying on her thigh as she powered through lines.

As far as tightly wound actresses go, Reese Witherspoon tops the list. She insists upon a strict sense of order in her life. Her production company is called Type A, a moniker her latest costar, Robert Pattinson, says fits her strong sense of self perfectly. And even when she appears to be having a spontaneous moment, lamenting that her well-orchestrated career built around an avoidance of bikinis has been breached by her current role as a leotard-clad circus performer, it turns out the line is a well-rehearsed quip that’s been repeated, practically on a loop, to scores of media outlets.

Which makes it all the more confounding that the 35-year old actress would subject herself to the unpredictable behaviors of circus animals such as the nearly 9-ton elephant Tai and a slew of trick horses when she shot the adaptation of the Depression-era romance “Water for Elephants.”

“I have anxiety. I get nervous, and I shake,” Witherspoon says. The night before shooting with the elephant, “I didn’t sleep, and I literally shook and shook and shook,” she says, feigning relaxation in a hotel room chair, still perfectly coiffed in a gray dress and 3-inch heels after a long day of enchanting the international press corps. “But the performances with the elephant were really magical for me. Against my better instincts I decided to ride the elephant with no harness, with no safety equipment. It was pretty great.”

Could it be that Witherspoon is finally loosening up? The native Southerner seems to be doing a lot of leaping without a protective net lately. After ending her eight-year marriage to actor Ryan Phillippe in 2007, she recently began a new chapter in her life, tying the knot with Jim Toth, an agent who represents the likes of Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson at CAA where Witherspoon is also repped, in a private wedding ceremony just a week before embarking on a publicity tour for “Elephants,” which opens Friday.

Reese Witherspoon & Robert Pattinson Fall In Love On ‘Water For Elephants’

Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson chat with Access’ Shaun Robinson about playing lovers in their upcoming film, “Water For Elephants.” How was their on-set chemistry? Plus, the duo reminisces about working with each other in the 2004 movie, “Vanity Fair,” where Robert played Reese’s son.

Reese Witherspoon Reveals Honeymoon Plans; Las Vegas Road Trip With Robert Pattinson

Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson chat about going to Las Vegas for the Academy of Country Music Awards after promoting their new film, “Water for Elephants.” So, when will Reese have time to go on her honeymoon?

Keen-eyed visitors will notice I added a new magazine alert to our sidebar earlier this week – Reese will be on the cover of the May issue of Elle UK! We now have a photo of the cover, which I believe is the subscribers edition cover – the newsstand cover will probably be different. It’s always great to see Reese embracing her sexy side, and I’m sure the photos inside will be even more beautiful. Accompanying the photos will be a new interview.

If anyone can provide Glamour Reese with scans then please get in touch! Unfortunately my scanner isnt working at the moment so I can’t scan this for us.

EDIT: Below the cover preview is a snippet of the interview.

Reese Witherspoon tied the knot with Ryan Phillippe in 1999 when she was 23. They have daughter Ava, 11, and seven-year-old son Deacon together, but got divorced in 2007. Last weekend Reese married Hollywood agent Jim Toth at a ceremony in California. The two are very happy together, but that doesn’t mean Reese regrets her first wedding. She is still friends with Ryan and says being with him enriched her life.

“Oh, I was so, so young. I was, like, ridiculously young. I learnt a lot, though. It was a good opportunity for me to really find out what it means to be a partner and to be in a marriage and it’s not anything that I thought it was,” she told the May edition of UK magazine Elle. “You can’t say, ‘I don’t want to talk about that.’ You just can’t. You’ve got to talk about it all.”

Reese, 35, is amazed she’s managed to find happiness again. She was thrilled when Jim proposed at the end of last year, revealing the moment completely took her breath away.

“It’s an exciting feeling. [Somebody saying], ‘You’re the one.’ And it’s a surprise. You know, I’m surprised when people who aren’t related to me see my movies,” she explained. “And you’re surprised somebody wants to be with you because, boy, I’ve got a lot of quirks and wrinkles.”

Reese feels “lucky” to be with Jim because she finds the whole dating process hard. Being with someone in the same industry has made things easier, and she admits feeling “happy” she no longer has to worry about finding someone.

The actress has a small group of friends she calls on when times are hard and lasting friendships are important to Reese. Her good pals are people who don’t care that she’s famous and have known her for a long time, so she can trust them.

“Friendships are work. You can only have a friend if you are a friend. You’ve got to be there. I really want to be the person who shows up for people when they need me,” she explained. “[My friends and I] tell each other everything. Stuff is hard to deal with, and we’ve gone through a lot together. I have an incredible support system.”

HOW DO you raise strong and confident daughters and sons respectful to women? By talking to them, according to actress Reese Witherspoon.

“It’s important to instill in them the idea that it’s very important to respect women, and for a woman to speak out to her partner [so that he] respects you,” Witherspoon said, speaking via phone patch from Atlanta, Georgia, on Tuesday.

The Oscar-winning actress was at the kick-off of the 16-city “Avon Believe World Tour,” a global effort underscoring the company’s heritage of empowering women. The event jumpstarted Avon’s 125th anniversary celebration.

Since 2007, Witherspoon has been Avon’s global ambassador and honorary chair of Avon Foundation, a charity that supports women, with special focus on breast cancer awareness and prevention of domestic violence.

“One of the main points we talk about at the Avon Foundation is education, talking about things,” she noted. “It’s important to begin speaking about these issues with your children before they’re in that age where they start to leave home and want to hang out with their peers. The best thing you can do as a mother is to talk to your kids about these issues, hopefully before they come up in their lives.”

2011 Movie Preview: ‘Water for Elephants’

Reese Witherspoon called Tai a ‘calm, … easygoing presence’ during filming, unlike some of the other animals in the circus movie.

On the last day of shooting “Water for Elephants,” Reese Witherspoon was so upset that she broke down in tears. She hadn’t been that saddened by a movie wrapping in years, the actress said, but she had become particularly attached to one costar: an 8,800-pound elephant named Tai.

“The day I had to say goodbye to her, I wept all day,” Witherspoon admitted. “It was one of the most extraordinary filmmaking experiences of my life. You work with actors and directors, but to have this nonverbal complete relationship with an animal that we were all very connected to was very magical.”

Based on a bestselling historical novel released in 2006, the film, due out April 22, centers on a former veterinary school student named Jacob ( Robert Pattinson), who falls for circus performer Marlena (Witherspoon). Because of the characters’ shared affinity for the big top, both actors had to be comfortable interacting with a variety of animals — horses, camels, and, of course, elephants.

Before production began, director Francis Lawrence planned a meeting with the stars and Tai at the 10-acre Perris, Calif., elephant ranch where she lives.

Reese shares lessons of the heart

YOU don’t become the queen of romantic comedies without learning a few things about matters of the heart and Reese Witherspoon is knowledgable.

Witherspoon – newly engaged actress and mother of two – is well-versed in the mysteries and mores of love, and she spends hours discussing and debating them with her girlfriends.

“I’m literally the girl who talks constantly about relationships. I hang up with one (friend), and I pick up the phone and call another one. It’s an ongoing dialogue all day long,” she says. “I don’t understand a woman who doesn’t talk about love and relationships.”

She has been through a divorce (from actor Ryan Phillippe) and breakups (most notably with actor Jake Gyllenhaal), but Witherspoon isn’t one to get hung up on past amorous calamities. She views them as life lessons.

“You gotta be glad that you went through them, and you gotta be glad that you learned from them. You gotta learn what you want,” says Witherspoon, 34, whose fiance is talent agent Jim Toth.

And like so many of the romantically challenged, you have to figure out if he’s the one for you.

That’s the perplexing question Witherspoon toys with in How Do You Know, a rom-com with the actress playing a past-her-prime softball pro who gets cut from Team USA and finds herself torn between two guys: a self-absorbed jock (Owen Wilson) and a somewhat neurotic businessman (Paul Rudd).

But unlike Witherspoon, who exudes certainty and self-assurance, the character of Lisa is a romantic naif.

The Sunday Telegraph Interview
Life teaches Reese Witherspoon all she need know

REESE Witherspoon is hooting with laughter. She’s just heard how co-star Jack Nicholson answered the inevitable question prompted by the new romantic comedy How Do You Know: how do you know when you’re in love?

“When you call your lawyer and start enquiring about pre-nups,” is how the legendary actor responded.

Witherspoon’s answer is a little more thoughtful. It’s also topical, because she’s just announced her engagement to her boyfriend of a year, Hollywood agent Jim Toth.

He proposed over the Christmas holidays with a four-carat diamond ring, outshone only by the huge smile the actress has been wearing ever since.

“I’m old enough to know I have no idea,” laughs the 34-year-old, looking ultra-chic in a black Proenza Schouler dress and sky-high Louboutin heels.

“In my 20s, I used to think I knew everything. Now I’m learning that as you get older, you begin to have the perspective that you don’t really know anything.

“Life is this great journey; you just never know what’s going to happen. So I kind of rely on my friends and family – they seem to know better than I do. They’re like, ‘You’re really happy!’

“And I think as you get older, what you want changes too. What you’re looking for in a relationship in your 20s is totally different from in your 30s.”
