Reese Witherspoon Hopes Her Kids Know Her ‘As an Individual’: ‘You Were a Person Before You Were a Mom’

Reese Witherspoon has three kids, which seems easily manageable when compared to her Sing character Rosita’s 25. But the actress and the animated performing pig do have something big in common.

“I have three kids of my own — sometimes it feels like 25,” says Witherspoon, 40, who is mom to sons Tennessee James, 4, and Deacon Reese, 13, and daughter Ava Elizabeth, 17.

“But the idea that you were a person before you were a mom, and that sometimes you really hope that your kids know who you are as an individual,” she adds of how she relates to Rosita, a single mom with dreams of hitting the big time.

Rosita does have one thing over her real-life counterpart, though: some serious engineering prowess.

“I’m very envious of Rosita’s building and technology,” Witherspoon says with a laugh of her character’s impressive parenting skills. “She somehow builds this entire contraption that feeds all 25 children, and puts their backpacks on and says goodnight to them and reads them bedtime stories.”

“And it’s really hard to find a babysitter when you have 25 kids,” the working mom jokes.

“Singing is joyful — I think it’s an affirmation of life, and that there’s so much to celebrate in this life,” the Legally Blonde alum and Draper James founder shares.

“If one of [my kids] tells [another] one to stop singing, I say, ‘Never tell somebody to stop singing. That means they’re happy or they have song in their heart,’ ” she continues. “It’s a beautiful expression of who we are as human beings.”

Sing is available Friday on Digital HD, and on Blu-ray and DVD March 21.

Reese and Matthew McConaughey taped an interview segment for UK chat show Lorraine that aired this week; here is a clip:

As posted about last night, Reese attended the Golden Globe Awards in Hollywood last night. Reese and her friend and Big Little Lies co-star/co-producer Nicole Kidman presented the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or a Motion Picture Made For TV which went to Sarah Paulson for The People v. O.J. Simpson; Reese makes no secret of her love for Sarah, so she must’ve been especially delighted to present this award! Following the ceremony, Reese and Nicole popped into the HBO After Party, and posed with fellow HBO actress Sarah Jessica Parker. Reese and Nicole look as though they had a fun night, and it’s great to see them out and about together 😊 Reese’s movie Sing was nominated for Best Motion Picture – Animated but unfortunately lost out to Zootopia.

Reese wore a custom-made yellow Versace gown, with Louboutin heels, a bag by Tyler Ellis, and jewellery from Tiffany & Co.. She stuck with her trusted hair and make-up team – Adir Abergel and Molly R. Stern. I absolutely love this look on Reese! She pulls off the yellow perfectly and looks classic, fresh and very beautiful 💛

I’ve added over 150 HQ photos from the event to our Gallery – there are some fab shots in there! Further down this post is a video of Reese and Nicole presenting, and some articles from the night. I’ll be on the lookout for a full video and will post that along with HD screencaptures from the show asap.

What did you think of Reese’s look at the Globes? Don’t hesitate to share your thoughts by posting a comment on this post!

It’s the start of a New Year, and time for us to look back on Reese’s dynamic 2016 and look forward to what she’ll be offering in 2017. On the surface 2016 was a relatively quiet year for Reese, but behind the scenes it seemed as if she’d been working in overdrive! She made a few red carpet and magazine cover appearances, but Reese’s 2016 seemed to have been focused on her Draper James company and developing strong roles for women in film through her production company Pacific Standard. 💛

The start of the year bought us Reese on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar, in a gorgeous, feminine new photoshoot and an interview in which she chatted to the magazine about Draper James and her career. She echoed similar sentiments about improving the image of women in film to Entertainment Weekly magazine, in a ‘beyond beautiful’ spread also including Kerry Washington, Eva Longoria, and Elizabeth Banks. The interview touched on topics from social media to their diverse careers, and the pretty but simplistic photoshoot complemented the meaningful nature of the interview.

Reese’s major public appearance at the start of the year was at the Oscars. She wore a gorgeous purple gown by Oscar de la Renta, with Jimmy Choo shoes and jewellry from Tiffany’s. Her husband accompanied her on the red carpet, and inside the ceremony she introduced clips from two of the Best Picture nominees with her friend Kate Winslet. Reese’s stylist Leslie Fremar explained the choices behind Reese’s dress: “Last week, it was lavender. We remade it in a darker purple because we thought it was really fresh and looked beautiful with her skin tone. The shape of the fan was really different and something I hadn’t seen before, and the black corset was really sexy. We didn’t want to compete with how beautiful, but simple, the dress was.”

Would Reese Witherspoon Ever Compete in a Singing Competition?

In the new movie “Sing,” Reese Witherspoon and Matthew McConaughey show off some of their singing chops — but if they had a sing-off, who would win?

While chatting with “Extra’s” Renee Bargh, Reese admitted she might not be winning any singing competitions. “I wouldn’t be the best. I’d be, like, okay.” Matthew chimed in, “That’s not what you said this morning,” to which Reese shot back, “No, you asked me if I’d win a dance competition and that was a yes… Other people shouldn’t even try.”

Reese does love watching shows like “The Voice,” saying, “There’s something very hopeful about them. I still get emotional when I see people breaking into the business because I’ve had a lot of those feelings. I had bad auditions and good auditions. It’s hard to put yourself out there and be vulnerable.”

“Sing” is in theaters now.
