The 4th episode of Big Little Lies aired this past Sunday, and it left us with even more questions around the central mystery of the show! There were so many things I loved about this episode, including seeing Celeste coming into her own in the meeting room, the honest conversation between her and Madeline in the car afterwards and just generally more of the friendship between the two of them. Reese had some fantastic and hilarious scenes (“And next thing I know, he has his hand in my shirt … or was it my hand in his shirt? It was a reflex!”) coupled with some showing her sensitive side – I love how consistently dynamic and layered the characters are … and I’m particularly enjoying seeing how they develop the character of Ed. The 5th episode of Big Little Lies – ‘Once Bitten’ – airs next Sunday 19th March on HBO.
Madeline (Reese Witherspoon) receives encouraging news about the play from her director, Joseph Bachman (Santiago Cabrera), but is left concerned by his newly icy demeanor. Principal Nippal (P.J. Byrne) and Ms. Barnes (Virginia Kull) share their conclusions about Ziggy (Iain Armitage) and Amabella (Ivy George) with Jane (Shailene Woodley). Celeste (Nicole Kidman) has a solo session with Dr. Reisman (Robin Weigert), who tries to get to the bottom of her relationship with Perry (Alexander Skarsgård).
Here’s another clip from the upcoming 4th episode of Big Little Lies:
In addition, Hollywood Today aired an interview with Reese’s Big Little Lies co-star James Tupper (he plays Madeline’s ex-husband Nathan) which includes him talking about Reese plus a clip from an upcoming episode:
HBO has released the first still from episode 4 of Big Little Lies, and it shows Madeline launching into her ‘puppet show’ director Joseph, with Celeste (who looks to be acting as her lawyer) by her side. The episode (‘Push Comes To Shove’) airs this coming Sunday …
Last night HBO aired the 3rd episode of Big Little Lies, entitled ‘Living The Dream’. This episode featured slightly less of Madeline – which wasn’t to the detriment of the episode, as it was good to see Renata’s character developed more. We saw more of Madeline’s layers and the complex relationship between Madeline and well, everyone … Reese bought real empathy to Madeline this week. I continue to eagerly await more of these characters and to see how the mystery unfolds!
Further down this post are a couple of clips from the episode plus the weekly ‘look inside the episode’ featurette, and in our Gallery we have gorgeous HD screencaptures for you:
