Jamie Foxx Announces Telethon for Hurricane Harvey, Reportedly Featuring Reese Witherspoon and Blake Shelton
Hollywood’s A-listers continue to step up in the wake of Hurricane Harvey’s devastating impact on Houston, Texas.
On Tuesday, Texas native Jamie Foxx announced on Instagram that there will be a telethon on Sept. 12 to raise money for those in need.
“Just wanted to let everyone in Texas know, we got you,” Foxx says, adding that he’s donated $25,000 to GlobalGiving, a non-profit organization that provides a global crowdfunding platform for grassroots charitable projects. “From a fellow Texan, my heart goes out. My prayers go out. September 12 we have a telethon that we’re doing. We’ll give you more details, so we can raise as much money as we can for everybody down there.”
The Sept. 12 telethon will take place simultaneously in Los Angeles, New York and Nashville, and will be aired by all the major networks for one hour, according to TMZ. The star-studded event is reportedly being organized by rapper Bun B and the same team behind the widely praised Ariana Grande One Love Manchester concert.
Reese Witherspoon and Blake Shelton will reportedly host from Nashville on Sept. 12, while the Los Angeles portion will be hosted by Foxx and tentatively Hilary Duff, who was born in Houston.
Fellow Houston native Michael Strahan is being tapped to host the New York portion of the telethon, TMZ also reports, and organizers are also hoping to secure Kelly Rowland as well as Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons — both born and raised in Houston as well.
Stars such as Kevin Hart, Dwayne Johnson and the Kardashian family have already donated to Hurricane Harvey relief, most notably Sandra Bullock, who donated $1 million to the Red Cross on Tuesday.

This month, Reese is pledging her support to the Child Minds Institute‘s #SpeakUpForKids campaign, to raise awareness, and combat the stigma, of mental illness in children. Watch her special Mother’s Day video below, and find out more at speakupforkids.org.
Last night Reese attended the annual Tiffany & Co. Blue Book Gala in New York City. Reese looked elegant in a floor-length teal gown by Brandon Maxwell, accessorising with Tiffany jewellery. Reese lends her face to designer Tory Burch’s’ #EmbraceAmbition project, which launched today to celebrate International Women’s Day and encourages women to ‘own their power’. Reese in featured in the PSA – watch below – and on the project website, along with many other female celebrities. Tory Burch will be selling #EmbraceAmbition bracelets and t-shirts, and 100 percent of the proceeds will benefit the Tory Burch Foundation, which “empowers women entrepreneurs in the United States” – shop here (US only).
Today, to challenge the cultural stigmas associated with women and ambition, the Tory Burch Foundation launched the global initiative, #EmbraceAmbition. This nonprofit campaign will encourage women and girls to voice their ambition and to own their power.
In 2004, a reporter asked me if I was “ambitious”. His question made me very uncomfortable. After the interview, a friend of mine called and said, “I really liked the article but you shied away from the word ambition.” She was right. I realized that I had bought into the stereotype that women shouldn’t admit to being ambitious – that it felt, in a way, unattractive.
Unfortunately, more than thirteen years later not a lot has changed. Even though I have learned to embrace my ambition and pursue my dreams, the cultural stigma around being an “ambitious woman” still exists. It is apparent daily, in very public and private ways; from the wealth of studies revealing that ambitious women are frequently penalized for their goals to some of our Foundation’s entrepreneurs sharing that they, “Google how to appear less ambitious.” In most cases, it’s an unconscious bias that women themselves internalize.
We all can play a part in ensuring ambition is no longer a harmful stereotype in six ways:
Talk about your ambitions – do not be afraid to own and voice them.
Be mindful of your own attitudes. Ask yourself, did I just react negatively to a woman for demonstrating her ambition?
Remember that ambition is incredibly personal. Determine what success means to you. It might be to run your own company or it might be to raise your children with integrity. (In my case, it’s both.) Whatever someone’s ambitions are, it’s not our place to judge them.
Support other women. As a friend, relative, or colleague help those around you make their ambitions a reality. When we support each other, we all do better.
Engage men in the discussion. Their involvement will help reduce the cultural biases their co-workers, partners, daughters, mothers, sisters, and friends face.
Join the movement and take the pledge to #EmbraceAmbition and own your power, your drive and your dreams.

Reese Witherspoon on What She’s Giving Her Kids for Christmas (and What She Really Wants!)
Reese Witherspoon‘s got a list, and she’s checking it twice!
The star, 40, is gearing up for the holidays by making sure all her family’s favorite things are under the Christmas tree, especially for her three children: daughter Ava, 17, son Deacon, 13 (from her first marriage to actor Ryan Phillippe), as well as son Tennessee, 4 (with her husband of five years, agent Jim Toth).
“My kids already have fond memories of our Christmas traditions,” says Witherspoon, wearing the Winter Deer Skirt ($195) from her clothing line Draper James in the photo below. “They’re definitely not grown up. They still love presents.”
So what’s she getting for them? For Ava, she’s turning to her teenage daughter to guide her. “She wants blue jeans and a cool coat,” she says. “I told her to tell me exactly what to buy. I don’t want to guess!”
Yesterday Reese attended the Baby2Baby Snow Day in Los Angeles. The event was sponsored by Tiny Prints, and kids in need were provided with a backpack of winter essentials and gifts for them and their families. Reese wore a Draper James dress, and posed with other celebrities including Jessica Chapshaw, Kelly Sawyer, and Santa 🎅
