I really enjoyed this film – Reese really bought Becky to life and carried the film against some prestigious British actors. Director Mira Nair said of casting American Reese in the classic English role: “I cast intuitively – in my films I cast as many non-actors as I cast actors. For me, it is intuition – I have to fall in love with an actor. It is a visceral response. Thackeray describes Becky Sharp as a minx. Also she’s described as someone who’s tiny, red-headed and thin.
