Earlier in the week Reese hosted a dinner to celebrate her friend and make-up artist Molly Stern’s collaboration with Sarah Chloe Jewelry. Reese was joined by Ava at the dinner, as well as Molly’s daughter, and Maya Rudolph who is another long-time client and friend of Molly’s. Reese wore a sleek gold dress from Draper James, and obviously accessorised with jewelry from the Molly Stern & Sarah Chloe collection. Reese Witherspoon Hosts Dinner for Molly R. Stern x Sarah Chloe Jewelry
The actress hosted a dinner for her longtime makeup artist at Lucques in L.A. to celebrate Stern’s collaboration with Sarah Chloe Jewelry.

“I’ve known Molly since I was 16, she’s one of my dearest friends,” said Reese Witherspoon of her longtime makeup artist, Molly R. Stern. The actress hosted a dinner at Lucques in Los Angeles on Monday night to celebrate Stern’s collaboration with Sarah Chloe Jewelry, dubbed #LoveYourself.

“Molly spreads such a positive message,” added Witherspoon of Stern’s hashtag mantra. “She’s more about inner beauty than how you look on the outside.”

Stern’s other longtime client, Maya Rudolph, agreed. “Molly used to wax my eyebrows when I was in college and we just clicked. We met again on a project when I was working in costumes and wardrobe and when I got to a point in my career when I could pick my own makeup artist, it had to be her.”

The event was a small affair for Stern’s friends and family. She brought her mom and oldest daughter; Witherspoon brought her daughter Ava Phillippe, Meritt Elliott brought her daughter Lyric, and so on. Client Lily Collins and wedding planner Yifat Oren were also in the mix.

Stern is a woman of many talents; she had a contemporary clothing line called MRS that her celebrity clients wore regularly, she painted the flower motif used to decorate the dinner, and she’s now lent her own handwriting to a jewelry collection.

“I hope it helps people to see me as more than a celebrity makeup artist,” she said. “I just enjoy being creative so anytime I can creak open other doors, I will.”

“We met through mutual friends and we were going over ideas, and I loved the way her writing looked so much that we turned it into jewelry,” said Sarah Chloe creative director Zahava Ryzman.

Said Stern, “I like that it has a pay-it-forward message. You can create a chain of positivity every time you wear it or give it to someone.”

Reese Witherspoon’s Makeup Artist Is Promoting Self-Love With Jewelry

When all of Hollywood’s top stylists gather in one room it means one of two things: awards season is coming up or they must be supporting one of their dear friends. Earlier this week, both happened to be the case at a dinner in West Hollywood, which served to celebrate makeup artist Molly R. Stern’s collaboration with the jewelry line, Sarah Chloe.

But we have a feeling that the guest list of stellar stylists, including Elizabeth Stewart (Cate Blanchett, Viola Davis and Jessica Chastain), Petra Flannery (Emma Stone, Amy Adams, Carey Mulligan), Emily Current and Merit Elliott (Jessica Alba) and Anita Patrickson (Ruby Rose and Anna Paquin) actually turned up to support their longtime friend, Stern. Also in attendance? Celebs such as Reese Witherspoon and her basically royal daughter, Ava Philippe, Maya Rudolph and Lily Collins. It was, as one would assume, a very Hollywood affair.

Seeing as this is a post-Harvey Weinstein Hollywood we’re talking about, the underlying thread of the evening was all about encouraging self-confidence and empowering other women. That message also happens to be the inspiration behind Stern’s affordable bauble designs for Sarah Chloe. The collection, entitled #LoveYourself, features that very phrase—in Stern’s handwriting—on delicate chain necklaces, adjustable cuffs, cute rings and even earrings that climb up the earlobe.

Stern, who has beautified A-list stars for the past 25 years, including Witherspoon, Cara Delevingne, Penelope Cruz, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Mary-Kate Olsen, might know a thing or two about finding self-confidence and learning to love yourself. But what has she learned about that topic from the women sitting in her makeup chair? “That we all struggle with it and that we are all better when we have it,” she told Observer. “You really have to believe in yourself to get anything done. Truly.”

That’s why Stern turns to the personal mantra of “love yourself” on a regular basis. “[The phrase] originated from the realization that I could be really awful to myself. A negative self-image can really bum out your day. I feel better, more empowered, more motivated, more alive when I am being kind to myself,” she explained. Now, she has a whole new suite of jewelry to remind her of that positive—and very necessary—self-affirming message.
