Reese Witherspoon struggled to find good scripts when she returned to work after a two-year break.
The actress, who took some time out to focus on her family life after her divorce from Ryan Phillippe in 2007, says that due to the writers’ strike that brought Hollywood to a standstill, there was a lack of interesting screenplays when she planned her comeback.
The Oscar winner insists that despite the wide range of films she has previously starred in, popular blockbusters like Transformers aren’t right for her.
“When I got back to work, I struggled to find a good script. The industry was just recovering from the writers’ crisis,” she told the French edition of Glamour. “Nowadays, movies are different. With giant robots and all. There are no roles for a 35-year-old woman in movie about giant robots!”
Reese – who married second husband Jim Toth earlier this year – was disappointed to discover that despite her hiatus, her personal life was still a popular topic for discussion.
The blonde beauty finds it frustrating that her work as an actress is interlinked with her private life.
“I live under a lot of scrutiny from the media, which creates a discrepancy,” she said. “For two years, no one has seen me on the big screen – but too much in the press. For a lot of people, my career is down to what they read in gossip magazines.”
