Reese Witherspoon and Christina Ricci have similar outlooks on dealing with very different struggles – just let it go.
In addition to producing and acting in the new flick Penelope, Witherspoon, 31, is also juggling single-motherhood. She tells the Associated Press that cutting herself some slack is the only way to get through.
“I feel like you are always in that negotiation with yourself: How much time at work? How much time at home? And I think you have to give up to the fact that you’re never going to totally get it right, but you’re never going to totally get it wrong, so if you just let yourself off the hook a little bit it helps a lot,” the mom of Eva, 8, and Deacon, 4, said.
Penelope star Ricci, on the other hand, lets pesky photographers off the hook, saying, “In terms of paparazzi or Internet blogs that are mean to you, you just have to do your best to ignore them.”
The 28-year-old actress added that she could relate to her pig-nosed character having grown up under the scrutinizing eye of the media.
“I think that one of the messages of this film, and something that I definitely adhere to in my life and try to always remember, is that you can’t let people’s criticisms or people’s views of you or anything stand in the way of you having the best life possible,” she told AP.
Penelope is in theaters Feb. 29.
