Freeway has been re-released on DVD and may be ordered at Amazon. Here are excerpts from JoBlo’s DVD review:
Video: Presented in 16×9 “widecreen.” (Seriously, it says “widecreen” on the box.) As for the transfer, it’s still the same, non-remastered version of the film, and victim to all the grain and imperfections.
Audio: Dobly Digital 5.1 surround, THX enhanced. This is one part of the DVD that comes through.
Have you been waiting for Freeway to get the Special Edition treatment? Congratulations, you get to keep waiting! This is nothing more than a cheap re-release of the exact same DVD from 1997. C’mon, Lionsgate; you could’ve at least sprung for a real DVD menu.
Director’s Narration: Wow. This DVD is so old, they weren’t even calling ‘em commentaries yet! Writer/director Matthew Bright has plenty to say about the movie (dubbing it an “artsploitation film”), as well as some interesting tidbits on being plucked from obscurity to make his debut feature, but overall a pretty boring commentary.
