In this short clip from a recent Home Again press interview, Reese mentions her excitement for this months Emmy Awards, where Big Little Lies is nominated for 16 awards:
Reese Witherspoon Knows Rom-Coms Need an Image Makeover
Romantic-comedy heroines can seldom have it all. They’re either professionally successful and unlucky in love, or great with the kids and unfulfilled at work or in the bedroom.
But in “Home Again,” a comedy due Sept. 8, Reese Witherspoon is a walking empowerment meme, complete with a wardrobe of pristine white blazers: she’s a newly separated 40-year-old, the mother of two precocious girls who starts a promising career as an interior decorator and shacks up with a hot 27-year-old.
“It never would have even crossed my mind that she couldn’t be all those things,” the writer-director Hallie Meyers-Shyer said, adding, “That wasn’t my experience growing up.”
Ms. Meyers-Shyer, 30, is the daughter of two filmmakers: Nancy Meyers (“It’s Complicated”) and Charles Shyer (“Baby Boom”). She spent her formative years on movie sets, before making her directing debut with “Home Again.” (Nancy Meyers served as executive producer.)
“In certain ways, Hallie knows more about the movie business than I do,” Ms. Witherspoon said.
Ms. Witherspoon, 41, has lately taken a big leap as a filmmaker herself, starting a production company to focus on projects led by women, with hits like “Wild,” “Gone Girl” and, earlier this year, the HBO mini-series “Big Little Lies,” about mothers in wealthy Monterey, Calif., that starred Ms. Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, among others. (A follow-up is being discussed with Liane Moriarty, the author of the novel on which it’s based, Ms. Witherspoon said.)
Speaking by phone from her Los Angeles home — and pausing briefly to greet Tennessee, the youngest of her three children — she spoke passionately about the changing roles for women on screen and how she wants to be a part of that change. These are edited excerpts from the conversation.

Reese Witherspoon Talks Family, Her Mindy Project Gig and Her First Red Carpet: “I Wore Cowboy Boots!”
You can take the girl out of Nashville, but you can’t take Nashville out of the girl!
It’s no shocker that Reese Witherspoon is a southern girl through and through. The actress has never been shy about discussing her Southern belle upbringing, and when E! News’ Jason Kennedy spoke with her at the Home Again premiere, she shared a fun fact about her first premiere in Los Angeles.
“You know what’s crazy, my first premiere was here in this building, right there,” she revealed. “I was 14 years old and I wore cowboy boots.” Not the typical red carpet glam you’d expect, but Reese had her reasons. “Well, I was from Nashville,” the actress shared.

Jamie Foxx Announces Telethon for Hurricane Harvey, Reportedly Featuring Reese Witherspoon and Blake Shelton
Hollywood’s A-listers continue to step up in the wake of Hurricane Harvey’s devastating impact on Houston, Texas.
On Tuesday, Texas native Jamie Foxx announced on Instagram that there will be a telethon on Sept. 12 to raise money for those in need.
“Just wanted to let everyone in Texas know, we got you,” Foxx says, adding that he’s donated $25,000 to GlobalGiving, a non-profit organization that provides a global crowdfunding platform for grassroots charitable projects. “From a fellow Texan, my heart goes out. My prayers go out. September 12 we have a telethon that we’re doing. We’ll give you more details, so we can raise as much money as we can for everybody down there.”
The Sept. 12 telethon will take place simultaneously in Los Angeles, New York and Nashville, and will be aired by all the major networks for one hour, according to TMZ. The star-studded event is reportedly being organized by rapper Bun B and the same team behind the widely praised Ariana Grande One Love Manchester concert.
Reese Witherspoon and Blake Shelton will reportedly host from Nashville on Sept. 12, while the Los Angeles portion will be hosted by Foxx and tentatively Hilary Duff, who was born in Houston.
Fellow Houston native Michael Strahan is being tapped to host the New York portion of the telethon, TMZ also reports, and organizers are also hoping to secure Kelly Rowland as well as Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons — both born and raised in Houston as well.
Stars such as Kevin Hart, Dwayne Johnson and the Kardashian family have already donated to Hurricane Harvey relief, most notably Sandra Bullock, who donated $1 million to the Red Cross on Tuesday.
