Reese made an appearance on Good Morning America on Wednesday to promote A Wrinkle In Time. She chatted about her recent visit to her Star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, Time’s Up, the importance of representing women in film, Big Little Lies season 2, Little Fires Everywhere with Kerry Washington, and her upcoming Untitled Morning TV Show with Jennifer Aniston. Reese also received a special message from Dolly Parton who had been on the show last week; Reese mentioned that she “has a show coming on in about a month” in which she interviews Dolly Parton, so we’ll keep an ear out for more information on that in the coming weeks! Watch the interview below, and find screencaptures in our Gallery:

Reese promoted A Wrinkle In Time on two US late night chat shows this week – The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, and Late Night With Seth Meyers. On Stephen Colbert on Wednesday night, Reese chatted about a Bruce Springsteen Broadway Show she went to, Oprah’s on-set ‘rules’, Times Up, and Big Little Lies season 2 (they start it next week!). She then met US figure skating Olympian Adam Rippon, who she had shared some mutual admiration with during the recent Winter Olympics. Reese wore a little blue dress by Roksanda on this show.

The day after, she made an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers and chatted about the movie and her co-stars, her appearance hosting SNL in 2001 (that was Seth Meyers’ first appearance on the show), and Big Little Lies season 2. Reese hilariously demonstrated how she responded when she found out that Meryl Streep agreed to join the show! I loved this interview and Reese’s look on the show – it reminded me of late 90’s Reese!

There a few clips from the show further down this post (we’ll have more in our video archive when it’s launched) and photos and HD screencaptures in the Gallery:

Q&A: Oprah plays life coach to ‘Wrinkle in Time’ co-stars

“A Wrinkle in Time” director Ava DuVernay insists she didn’t consciously assemble three of the entertainment industry’s most successful and entrepreneurial women to play the celestial, all-knowing “Mrs.” characters in Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling.

“I guess I’m attracted to that kind of energy: Like-minded take over the world-ness,” DuVernay said.

Winfrey, Witherspoon and Kaling spoke recently with The Associated Press about the film, DuVernay’s achievement, a changing industry and Winfrey’s life advice.

Remarks have been edited for clarity and brevity.

———

AP: You’ve all become fast friends it seems.

WITHERSPOON: It’s great to be around people who inspire you and lift you up. My grandma used to say, ‘People are either a radiator or a drain. Surround yourself with people who radiate light and goodness and love and do not stick around the drains because they will pull you down.’

WINFREY: Oh, that’s good, grandma!

AP: What do you think of the historic fact that Ava DuVernay got to direct this?

WITHERSPOON: It’s extraordinary when a company of this size puts their money into it and their entire marketing into this. This is not the level of marketing I’m used to.

KALING: I’m like Carrie Bradshaw where I’m walking down the street and see a bus with my face on it.

WINFREY: That happened to me! I’m driving down the street and I see my face on a bus stop and I’m like, ‘Stoppppp! Stoooopppp! That’s me!’

‘A Wrinkle in Time’: Stars get frank about motherhood, parity and Oprah for president

It turns out, Reese Witherspoon is a killer travel guide.

Last year, when she, Oprah Winfrey and Mindy Kaling moved with the cast of A Wrinkle in Time (in theaters Friday) from California to New Zealand, it was Witherspoon who knew about all the best spots and local adventures.

“Reese has friends in any corner of the world; generous friends who say, ‘We’d like to take you on a helicopter tour,’ ” says Kaling, 38, sitting next to a laughing Winfrey, 64, and Witherspoon, 41.

“Or, ‘Would you like to come to our island?’ ” Winfrey says.

The fast friends represent director Ava DuVernay’s vision of what a modern adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s classic 1962 sci-fi novel looks like in 2018: Take protagonist Meg Murry (in the book, a young white girl from Connecticut), and cast her as a black child from Compton. Replace the three granny-esque “Mrs.” — celestial guides who mentor Meg — with black, white and Asian faces.

“I just wanted to do something that would make a kid go, ‘Wow, I want to fly like that.’ But who’s the person flying? It’s the person who never gets to fly. The black girl,” says DuVernay. “It’s a really big deal to have a scene in the movie, where a black girl says to a Caucasian boy, ‘Do you trust me?’ And he says yes and he follows her. I can’t think of another film where that happens.

“She’s not a Jedi. She’s not a superhero. She’s a girl in a plaid shirt and glasses and she does extraordinary things. That touched me and I related to it.”

United Nations Observance of International Women’s Day x19

Commemoration of International Women’s Day amidst unprecedented global movement for women’s rights

Rural and urban activists take centre stage as Monica Ramirez, Reese Witherspoon, Danai Gurira join the event at the United Nations

Coming on the heels of unprecedented global efforts for women’s rights, equality and justice, International Women’s Day, 8 March, will put a spotlight on the tireless work of activists who have been central to these extraordinary movements worldwide. Under this year’s theme, “Time is Now: Rural and Urban Activists Transforming Women’s Lives”, events around the world will capture the vibrant work of activists and their mobilization for change.

Through marches of solidarity, viral social media campaigns, cultural efforts and powerful grassroots organizing, people across the world are galvanizing for a future that is gender equal. While some of these movements have captured the headlines, other efforts persevere far away from the limelight. Rural and urban activists continue to mobilize, disrupt the status quo, and influence a broad range of policy, legislative and social reforms, from founding projects to end violence at the workplace to providing access to services for ethnic, immigrant and minority women, working every day to leave no one behind.

UN Women Executive Director, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, said: “We know that healthy societies include a wide mix of voices, yet millions of women around the world are being silenced and their potential cramped. The current solidarity movements have to be a tipping point for accountability; an end to impunity and the cyclical poverty of women in both rural and urban areas. Lively political activism from both men and women must target change for those who need it most”.

Reese Witherspoon & New Line Set ‘A Private War’ Scribe For ‘In A Dark Dark Wood’ Adaptation

Reese Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea’s adaptation of Ruth Ware’s suspense novel In A Dark Dark Wood is kicking up a gear after finding a writer. The film, which is set up at New Line with fellow producers The Gotham Group, is being written by A Private War scribe Arash Amel.

Amel will adapt the New York Times best-selling mystery-thriller which centers on a reclusive writer who receives an invitation to a bachelorette party of her best friend from high school who she hasn’t seen in 10 years. Witherspoon and Papandrea are producing alongside Ellen Goldsmith-Vein (Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials), Lindsay Williams (Maze Runner) and Shari Smiley who will produce for The Gotham Group. There are no plans at present for Witherspoon to star in this one.

Witherspoon and Papandrea ended their successful Pacific Standard collaboration in 2016 but they continue to produce the projects they had in development at the company, which Witherspoon maintains alongside her outfit Hello Sunshine. During their Pacific run the pair championed female-driven properties and movie adaptations of best-selling books such as Wild, for which Witherspoon scored a best actress Oscar nomination, and box office winner Gone Girl. More recently the duo hit it out of the park with HBO favourite Big Little Lies, which has been ordered for a second season.

Amel recently wrote the screenplay for anticipated Marie Colvin biopic A Private War, which is being directed by Cartel Land helmer Matthew Heineman and stars Rosamund Pike as the famed US war correspondent alongside Jamie Dornan and Stanley Tucci. The film is considered a strong contender for a summer or fall festival slot. Amel is a producer and writer on Sam Worthington sci-fi The Titan, which rolls out this year, and script Seducing Ingrid Bergman, which has Jessica Chastain attached.

Novelist Ware is similarly in-demand. The writer’s New York Times-bestseller The Lying Game is being turned into a television series for Entertainment One (eOne) and the growing Gotham Group while CBS Films has set up The Woman In Cabin 10.

Witherspoon is repped by CAA, LBI Entertainment and Hansen Jacobson. Papandrea is repped by WME. Amel is repped by CAA, Grandview and Myman, Greenspan. Ware is repped The Gotham Group and Eve White Literary Agency in the U.K.
