Reese Witherspoon plays a woman wedged in a love triangle between two CIA agents and best friends, played by Tom Hardy and Chris Pine, in the action/romance Valentine’s Day comedy “This Means War.”
But it’s her on-screen and off-screen friendship with co-star Chelsea Handler that has everyone raising eyebrows.
Even the typically sweet actress is confused about how she became so close to the potty-mouthed late night comedian.
“We’re the most unlikely friends – like on ‘Animal Planet’ where the giraffe and turtle make friends,” Witherspoon told Fox411’s Pop tarts column regarding her Handler friendship. “That’s us.”
The Oscar-winning actress, who last year tied the knot for the second time with Hollywood agent Jim Toth, also said she knows precisely what characteristics a man requires to keep her happy.
“Great character, loyal and honest,” she declared.
Sounds reasonable.
And if Witherspoon, who won her Oscar for her moving portrayal of country music legend June Carter, was ever to stand before Jennifer Lopez on “American Idol” – she already knows what tune she would belt.
“’Angel from Montgomery,’ the John Prine song,” she quipped.

Australian tv show The Project aired an interview with Reese today to promote This Means War, and the video is now online. It was an interesting interview, in which Reese talked about how the movie is about women taking their power back, why Chelsea Handler is such a good friend, and the differences between Tom and Chris. As much as they try to avoid it, most women find a moment after they have kids when they realize they just might be turning into their mom. And for Reese Witherspoon, it was no different.
“It’s usually something while you’re parenting,” the star of This Means War (in theaters Feb. 17) tells iVillage exclusively. “A phrase slips out like, ‘Because I said so.’ And then you go, ‘Oh, that sounds like my mother.'”
The 35-year-old mom of two (she has Ava, 12, and Deacon, 8, from her marriage to Ryan Phillippe) also admits that she’s still struggling to find a balance between career and motherhood — even now that her kids are getting older. “At every age it’s a different set of difficulties. Certain things get easier, certain things get harder.”

This Means War star Reese Witherspoon celebrated Valentine’s Day on the set of Conan last night. Getting in the spirit, Reese shared her celebrity crushes — girl crushes, that is!
“I have a girl crush on Rachel Bilson because I think she’s so cute,” Reese told Conan O’Brien on his show. “I also have a major girl crush on Jennifer Aniston. But, I mean, doesn’t everybody have a girl crush on Jennifer Aniston?”
“Dogs have crushes on Jeninfer Aniston,” Reese Joked. “There are dogs that are like, ‘I wish it were me in Marley & Me. She’s so cute.’ ”
But Reese’s crush shouldn’t come as a surprise. She recently revealed her crush while presenting Jen an award. “I played her younger sister on Friends mainly so I could meet Jennifer Aniston,” she explained. “She’s just so lovable and amazing.”
Reese also admitted she is in love with Pinterest!
“From what I can sort of see, it’s mainly for women and it’s mainly just a collection of the most amazing, wonderful craftiness on Earth!” she gushed.
