Reese attended and spoke at the Watermark Conference for Women in San Francisco on Friday. The conference gathered prominent women from business and entertainment to speak to an audience “to promote, communicate and amplify the influence of women in the workplace and beyond”. Reese spoke about equality, ambition, what being a mother has taught her, and what the best advice she’s been given is. There were lots of snippets of quotes posted by people at the conference, and I’ve compiled a ton of them into a Twitter ‘moment’, which you can find below. The first high quality photos have been added to our Gallery:

Reese Witherspoon brings the power of #MeToo to Watermark Conference in San Jose

Reese Witherspoon says she could have earned a degree in English literature at Stanford University and gone on to study medicine, but the one-time teen actress couldn’t afford the tuition.

So she turned to movies and for a time rose to the highest level of fame and accolades in Hollywood, including winning an Academy Award. But along the way, the star of “Legally Blonde” and “Walk the Line” endured the dark side of a male-dominated, often misogynistic film industry. She suffered sexual assault by an unnamed male director when she was 16 and encountered rapidly diminishing career opportunities once she got into her late 30s.

On Friday, Witherspoon was back in the South Bay, probably more triumphant than ever. At the Watermark Conference for Women Silicon Valley, she took to the stage in front of 6,500 attendees as an emerging Hollywood power player, in her way embodying the promise of the #MeToo movement’s call for cultural transformation.

Witherspoon, as an actress and producer, has accomplished a recent string of hit film and TV shows centered on intriguing female characters, capped in 2017 by HBO’s Emmy-winning series “Big Little Lies.” She’s also one of the most prominent Hollywood women leading the Time’s Up movement to fight sexual misconduct and gender inequality in entertainment and other industries.

“I think this is a crazy new time: This year,” said Witherspoon, flashing her signature bright smile while in conversation with former Teen Vogue editor-in-chief Elaine Welteroth. “I mean, does anyone feel we’re on the precipice of something very different?”

Allison Janney praises Reese Witherspoon and Margot Robbie for offering roles to older women

Allison Janney has praised Hollywood for offering more roles to older women, as this year’s crop of Best Supporting Actress are all women who are over the age of 45.

‘Love that, that’s extraordinary, I didn’t even put it together, I wish I had thought of saying something about that,’ she said as Metro.co.uk asked her if she felt there was a shift in the film industry.

Allison won the Best Supporting Actress award for her work on I, Tonya; she was up against Lesley Manville, Kristin Scott Thomas, Octavia Spencer and Laurie Metcalf.

‘As someone whose career didn’t start until they were 38, I’ve been happy and fortunate to be cast in roles, and now more than ever there are more roles for women, and more female producers,’ she said.

‘Reese Witherspoon and Big Little Lies, and all the extraordinary talented women coming to TV – as there is better opportunity for more complex roles – and people like Margot [Robbie]. I am so excited for her to become an important producer,’ she said.

Her I, Tonya co-star Margot Robbie set up her own production company in 2014, and she helped to produce the Bafta-winning film.

‘She’s so young and yet she knew she wasn’t getting the roles she wanted so she started her own company and looked for female driven content,’ said Allison.

‘And people like her will change the landscape of the film world and i think it’s only going to get better and better.’

‘Big Little Lies’ Season 2: Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, Zoë Kravitz Set to Return

Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, and Zoë Kravitz are officially on board for “Big Little Lies” Season 2, HBO announced Friday.

Woodley returns as Jane Chapman, with Dern coming back as Renata Klein, and Kravitz reprising the role of Bonnie Carlson. The trio join previously announced returning cast members Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, with Meryl Streep also joining the second season as Perry’s mother.

In the second season, while processing Perry’s sudden death, Jane is trying to build a new life for herself and Ziggy. Renata is now faced with new challenges in her marriage, while Bonnie struggles with Perry’s death and is forced to face demons in her past.

Woodley and Dern were both nominated for an Emmy and a Golden Globe award in the supporting actress category for their work on the show’s first season, with Dern winning both awards.

Woodley is repped by Management 360 and Hyperion Talent. Dern is repped by CAA and Untitled Entertainment. Kravitz is repped by Paradigm and Untitled Entertainment.

HBO announced in December that “Big Little Lies” would return for a second season. Kidman and Witherspoon will again executive produce in addition to starring. Season 1 was based on the novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty, with Season 2 based on a new story by the author. David E. Kelley, who wrote and executive produced Season 1, will return in the same roles for Season 1. Andrea Arnold will direct all seven episodes.

Jean-Marc Vallée, who directed all of Season 1, will also executive produce along with Kelley, Kidman and Per Saari through Blossom Films, Witherspoon through Hello Sunshine, Bruna Papandrea, Nathan Ross, Gregg Fienberg and Arnold.

“Big Little Lies” premiered on HBO in early 2017 and went on to win eight Primetime Emmy Awards at the 69th annual ceremony in Sept. of the same year, including best limited series or TV movie, and acting wins for Kidman, Dern, and Alexander Skarsgård. Moriarty will serve as producer.

Our beautiful Reese graces the cover of the March issue of US Marie Claire magazine! In the interview they talked about the familiar themes of ambition, sexual harrassment, female empowerment, and of course A Wrinkle In Time. Accompanying the interview is a brand new and beautiful photoshoot – I particularly love the softness of the cover, it reminds me of 2003/2005 photoshoots. I love seeing Reese on another big magazine cover, and this one will be available to purchase on US news-stands from February 20th. Find snippets from the interview below, and high quality photos in our Gallery.

Reese Witherspoon Is Leading the Charge

The award-winning actress, producer, and activist sits down with Marie Claire’s Editor-in-Chief to discuss her upcoming movie A Wrinkle in Time, diversity in the workplace, and the undeniable evolution of what it means to be a woman today.

I first fell in love with Reese Witherspoon when she strutted down the halls of Harvard Law School in 2001’s Legally Blonde as Elle Woods, proving so forcefully that a woman who cares about makeup and clothes can also be brilliant. I’ve followed Reese’s career ever since, from her Oscar-winning portrayal of June Cash in Walk the Line (2005) to her raw performance in Wild (2014), and I recently spent an entire Saturday binge-watching the Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning Big Little Lies. Reese produced the latter two projects, in addition to 2014’s Gone Girl, under the auspices of her relatively new production company, Hello Sunshine.

Her mom once told her that if you wanted a job done right, you’d have to do it yourself. So, realizing the alarming and persistent dearth of meaty roles for women, Reese set out to create her own opportunities, lifting up other women along the way. With 23 producing projects in the works, it’s kind of a miracle she’s running lifestyle brand Draper James and a killer book club on Instagram. When I heard she’d landed a role in Ava DuVernay’s adaptation of one of my all-time favorite books, A Wrinkle in Time, I volunteered to interview her myself.

Anne Fulenwider: You’ve talked about how you’re proud of your ambition. Where do you get that from?

Reese Witherspoon: I get a lot of support from my husband [Jim Toth, an agent at CAA], who cares deeply about equality and always tells me,“Why wouldn’t you call the person in charge of a company and have a personal relationship with them?” He’s encouraged me to be outspoken. Oprah has encouraged me before I ever met her to be the best version of myself, through her book clubs, the people I saw on her show. [She’s been] an incredible advocate for me as a businesswoman.

Natalie Portman Credits Reese Witherspoon With Teaching Her The ‘Ways of Modernity’

Natalie Portman has a friend in Reese Witherspoon! The 36-year-old Oscar winner recently joined Instagram with the help of the Big Little Lies star and producer.

Witherspoon kicked off Portman’s social media journey, jokingly welcoming her to 2018. When ET’s Nischelle Turner caught up with Portman and her co-star Oscar Isaac at the Annihilation junket, she opened up about the decision to join social media and Witherspoon’s help.

“Reese has been a wonderful support system in teaching me the ways of modernity,” Portman joked. “There’s this thing called social media.”

She noted that she’s not addicted yet, adding, “It’s a very new thing in my life, and I feel like a grandmother who’s learned how to use the microwave. Wow, it heats things up!”

Reese, Oprah Winfrey, and Mindy Kaling cover the latest issue of O, The Oprah Magazine as part of the promotion for A Wrinkle In Time. In the interview, the three women talk about empowering women, ambition, the recent sexual harrassment scandal in Hollywood, and the Times Up movement. The interview was televised on Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday show on her OWN network and you can see the videos here. Oprah Talks with Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling About Sexism

Oprah talks with Mindy Kaling and Reese Witherspoon about sexism onscreen and off, and carving a pathway to parity.

It would be tough to pick two more blue-chip Hollywood names than Reese Witherspoon (star and producer of, most recently, the deliciously sinister, labyrinthine HBO series Big Little Lies and Mindy Kaling (whose six-season comedy, The Mindy Project, was the first TV show created by an Indian American). Both wield witchy magic alongside Oprah in the upcoming A Wrinkle in Time, the new film adaptation of the 1962 futuristic fantasy novel, directed by another boundary smasher, Ava DuVernay. When the “O” of O sat down with these two fearless changemakers, they immediately started discussing how far women have come— and where we must go next.

Oprah: I’m so excited to have a conversation with such beautiful, innovative, powerful women—my A Wrinkle in Time costars.

Reese Witherspoon: Thank you for having us! Sitting around and talking is our favorite thing to do.

Mindy Kaling: And it’s nice not to be in harnesses and wigs.
