Elizabeth Arden & Reese Witherspoon ‘March On’ For Women
Today, Elizabeth Arden announces the launch of the March On campaign, featuring a limited edition lipstick, in the brand’s signature Red Door Red shade and signed by Reese Witherspoon, which will be sold globally with 100% of the proceeds donated to UN Women.
An early advocate of women’s rights, Elizabeth Arden famously provided red lipsticks to the suffragettes marching on Fifth Avenue in 1912. Wearing red lipstick, which wasn’t a socially acceptable practice at the time, became a symbol of the women’s movement and has remained an icon of female power to this day. As the women’s movement remains in force over 100 years later, Elizabeth Arden continues its fearless female founder’s legacy of advocating for women and honoring their ability to be forces of change in the world with the introduction of the March On campaign.
The program, in partnership with the brand’s Storyteller-in-Chief and female advocate Reese Witherspoon, is designed to celebrate women’s achievements, encourage women to support other women and includes a pledge to donate $1 million to UN Women in support of their work to advance women’s issues worldwide. The limited edition March On red lipstick serves as a powerful symbol of unity and advocacy and invites women around the world to signal their support for one another.
“Founded by a woman dedicated to helping women, we are inspired by our history to help change the future. March On honors this legacy not only with a philanthropic donation, but also with a campaign that asks women to unite to help each other achieve their full potential,” explains Kara Langan, Senior Vice President, Global Marketing, Elizabeth Arden. “Whether by creating female-centric support systems or propelling each other in their professional lives, when women stand together they can enact great change in the world.”
“There is real strength and camaraderie in March On and the feeling that we are in this together. By bringing UN Women, Elizabeth Arden and women everywhere together we can help change women’s lives around the world for the better,” explains Reese Witherspoon. “I have the unique privilege to not only tell these women’s stories through my production company as well as my relationship with Elizabeth Arden, but I also get to encourage them to share their own stories through March On.”
“A prominent entrepreneur and supporter of women’s rights, Elizabeth Arden herself is an inspirational example of the impact women can make on the world. We are pleased to embark upon a multi-year, worldwide partnership with the iconic brand to help advocate for women and girls and make their equal participation a reality,” says Tunay Firat, OIC Head of Strategic Private Sector Partnerships, UN Women. “The funds raised by Elizabeth Arden through the March On program will help strengthen UN Women’s global programming, which will lead directly to the increased responsiveness and sustainability of field-level activities.”
The ongoing integrated marketing campaign will include social content, public relations, in-store activations and advertising featuring Reese Witherspoon, in addition to the limited edition lipstick. The March On Beautiful Color Lipstick in Red Door Red will be available beginning March 2018 for $26.50 on ElizabethArden.com and in department stores globally.
Reese attended the world premiere of her new family-fantasy-adventure film A Wrinkle In Time in Los Angeles on Monday night! Reese was accompanied by her daughter Ava, who she posed on the red carpet with; Deacon was also in attendance but didn’t walk the red carpet with them. Reese was excited for her kids to see the film because they both read the book in school. Reese looked elegant in a sparkly red dress by Michael Kors and classic wavy hair – I love her look!
Over 200 high quality photos from the red carpet have been added to our Gallery, and further down this post are lots of videos with footage from the event. A big thanks goes to our friends at Adoring Gugu Mbatha Raw and Alicia Vikander Vault for keeping us stocked up with photos.
Reese attended and spoke at the Watermark Conference for Women in San Francisco on Friday. The conference gathered prominent women from business and entertainment to speak to an audience “to promote, communicate and amplify the influence of women in the workplace and beyond”. Reese spoke about equality, ambition, what being a mother has taught her, and what the best advice she’s been given is. There were lots of snippets of quotes posted by people at the conference, and I’ve compiled a ton of them into a Twitter ‘moment’, which you can find below. The first high quality photos have been added to our Gallery:
Reese Witherspoon brings the power of #MeToo to Watermark Conference in San Jose
Reese Witherspoon says she could have earned a degree in English literature at Stanford University and gone on to study medicine, but the one-time teen actress couldn’t afford the tuition.
So she turned to movies and for a time rose to the highest level of fame and accolades in Hollywood, including winning an Academy Award. But along the way, the star of “Legally Blonde” and “Walk the Line” endured the dark side of a male-dominated, often misogynistic film industry. She suffered sexual assault by an unnamed male director when she was 16 and encountered rapidly diminishing career opportunities once she got into her late 30s.
On Friday, Witherspoon was back in the South Bay, probably more triumphant than ever. At the Watermark Conference for Women Silicon Valley, she took to the stage in front of 6,500 attendees as an emerging Hollywood power player, in her way embodying the promise of the #MeToo movement’s call for cultural transformation.
Witherspoon, as an actress and producer, has accomplished a recent string of hit film and TV shows centered on intriguing female characters, capped in 2017 by HBO’s Emmy-winning series “Big Little Lies.” She’s also one of the most prominent Hollywood women leading the Time’s Up movement to fight sexual misconduct and gender inequality in entertainment and other industries.
“I think this is a crazy new time: This year,” said Witherspoon, flashing her signature bright smile while in conversation with former Teen Vogue editor-in-chief Elaine Welteroth. “I mean, does anyone feel we’re on the precipice of something very different?”
The Cast of A Wrinkle in Time Surprised Guests at the Disneyland Resort and Rocked Minnie Ears
What could make a visit to the Disneyland Resort even more magical? How about seeing Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, and Storm Reid from A Wrinkle In Time in the Parks?! Yes, the cast of the film made a surprise appearance today at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park ahead of the film’s debut on March 9.
The quartet posed for photos in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle with matching sparkly Minnie Ears.
Before that, Storm, Oprah, Mindy, and Reese surprised guests on stage at Disney California Adventure Park’s Sneak Peek Theatre following an exclusive preview of the film. Everyone in the audience received a special “Tessering Ticket” that allowed them to get Disney FASTPASS access to several rides at the Disneyland Resort.
Tickets are on sale now for A Wrinkle in Time! See the film in theaters March 9.
Allison Janney praises Reese Witherspoon and Margot Robbie for offering roles to older women
Allison Janney has praised Hollywood for offering more roles to older women, as this year’s crop of Best Supporting Actress are all women who are over the age of 45.
‘Love that, that’s extraordinary, I didn’t even put it together, I wish I had thought of saying something about that,’ she said as Metro.co.uk asked her if she felt there was a shift in the film industry.
Allison won the Best Supporting Actress award for her work on I, Tonya; she was up against Lesley Manville, Kristin Scott Thomas, Octavia Spencer and Laurie Metcalf.
‘As someone whose career didn’t start until they were 38, I’ve been happy and fortunate to be cast in roles, and now more than ever there are more roles for women, and more female producers,’ she said.
‘Reese Witherspoon and Big Little Lies, and all the extraordinary talented women coming to TV – as there is better opportunity for more complex roles – and people like Margot [Robbie]. I am so excited for her to become an important producer,’ she said.
Her I, Tonya co-star Margot Robbie set up her own production company in 2014, and she helped to produce the Bafta-winning film.
‘She’s so young and yet she knew she wasn’t getting the roles she wanted so she started her own company and looked for female driven content,’ said Allison.
‘And people like her will change the landscape of the film world and i think it’s only going to get better and better.’
