Reese Witherspoon named People magazine’s ‘best-dressed’ of 2015
Actress Reese Witherspoon was named People magazine’s best-dressed person of 2015 on Wednesday.
Witherspoon, the Oscar-winning star of Johnny Cash movie “Walk the Line,” headed a list that includes Hollywood stars Julianne Moore, Kate Hudson, and 15-year-old “Mad Men” actress Kiernan Shipka.
Witherspoon, 39, has clear ideas about what she likes (bright hues and clean lines) and what she doesn’t (crop tops and puffy dresses).
“I’d look like a mushroom,” she told People magazine of such styles, saying her height, at 5 ft 2 in (1.58 meters), is a fashion liability. “I always tell my stylist that it’s hard to dress short girls.”
Witherspoon ironically was one of the women leading an #AskHerMore campaign at the 2015 Oscars ceremony in which reporters were encouraged to ask actresses on the red carpet more about their work in movies than their style choices.
The actress is often a fashion favorite on red carpets, opting for a pale blue fitted off-the-shoulder Tom Ford gown to this year’s Oscars, a silver beaded strapless Calvin Klein dress for the Golden Globes and a one-shouldered Giorgio Armani gown for the SAG awards.
People magazine also named some of their best-dressed couples, including actress Gabrielle Union and Miami Heat basketball player husband Dwayne Wade, singer John Legend and his model wife Chrissy Teigen, and “Magic Mike” actor Channing Tatum and his actress and dancer wife Jenna Dewan Tatum.
People magazine’s 30-page PeopleStyle special can be found in the issue on newsstands on Sept. 11, or online at www.people.com/bestdressed.
Reese Witherspoon: My Daughter Has Access to ‘Anything She Wants to Wear’ in My Closet
We can’t even imagine the gloriousness that is street style superhero Reese Witherspoon‘s closet, but we can imagine that if we were anywhere near it, we’d want everything. And there’s one young lady who has possibly the best proximity to one of the most enviable off-duty wardrobes ever, Witherspoon’s lookalike 15-year-old daughter, Ava. But just what is she permitted to borrow?
“Anything she wants to wear,” Witherspoon tells PEOPLE exclusively in this week’s issue. “She and I just swap clothes.”
Witherspoon adds of the budding fashionista, “She’s got great taste. I love to see the way she has her own sense of style. She’s a young woman and is really developing her sense of what she wants to look like.” That just happens to include rocking a whole lot of her mom’s line, Draper James, like the navy magnolia Nashville Shirt that we’ve spotted on Reese herself multiple times.
“It’s great to see her wear it and work it into her own wardrobe staples,” she says. “But she thinks I’m ridiculous, [saying], ‘I would never wear it like that, I’d wear it like this.’”
However, they do have similar taste when it comes to accessorizing — and beauty! “We actually both love the same hats, that’s what’s funny,” she says (check out her adorable Draper James Panama hat, below). “And we both love makeup. We go to Sephora maybe way too much. Ridiculous. But it’s fun — it’s great to have a girl and get to go shopping together and buy makeup and stuff.”
Aside from being a prime shopping buddy, Ava is also potentially a stand-in stylist. Says Witherspoon, “I really trust and value her opinion; she’s a very smart young woman and she helps me make a lot of decisions.”

"It took me years to be the woman my mother raised. It took me 4 years, 7 months and 3 days to do it, without her. After I lost myself in the wilderness of my grief, I found my own way out of the woods."
