Reese Witherspoon Reveals The Best Beauty Tip Her Mom Ever Gave Her
Reese Witherspoon owes her best beauty secrets to the women who raised her.
“I’ve learned so much from my mom to my grandma, and I think that it’s so great that I am able to pass it on to my daughter,” the “Big Little Lies” actress and Elizabeth Arden ambassador told Access exclusively at the brand’s garden party in Beverly Hills on Wednesday.
The new issue of Entertainment Weekly (Game Of Thrones cover) has a preview of the upcoming 2nd season of Big Little Lies, with a new cast promotional photo and an interview with writer David E. Big Little Lies boss David E. Kelley says ‘a cord and core of stress’ runs through the Monterey Five in season 2
Got a secret, can you keep it? That’s the challenge facing Celeste (Nicole Kidman), Madeline (Reese Witherspoon), Jane (Shailene Woodley), Bonnie (Zoë Kravitz), and Renata (Laura Dern) as the second season of HBO’s Big Little Lies arrives, bringing with it new lies, guilt, and Meryl Streep.
“We left off with a lie, so it would have been disingenuous not to mine that lie for all its malignancy,” says writer and showrunner David E. Kelley. “It’s going to result in more skewed fractures and fissures in the friendships between the women, some of the marriages, and some of the individual psyches.”
Big Little Lies, based on Liane Moriarty’s novel of the same name, was initially a limited series in 2017, but after its success — the ratings, the memes, and the eight Emmy trophies — HBO quickly got the star-studded band back together, this time with Streep in tow. Kelley returned to pen the script, with help from an unpublished novella that Moriarty wrote and American Honey filmmaker Andrea Arnold directed all seven episodes.
“Liane had done a novella with ideas of where she thought the characters would go, some brilliant ideas including the idea to bring back Perry’s mother, so I think going forward from year 2, it’s all fresh material,” Kelley said. The exception is with Bonnie, whose backstory will be parsed out more this season as she comes into the spotlight.
In the first episode of the new season of Big Little Lies, we return to the idyllic California coastal town of Monterey a few months after the climactic costume party in last season’s finale, at which the ladies intervened in an altercation between Celeste and her abusive husband, Perry (Alexander Skarsgård), resulting in Bonnie pushing him down a flight of stairs to his death. That moment freed Celeste, but now traps her in a bond with the women as they vow to protect Bonnie as the police investigation into Perry’s death intensifies.

The 5 Stars of Big Little Lies Have a Lot to Say — About Each Other
Guess which actress is the most “rigorous,” who’s a “ninja,” and who reliably keeps “old-lady candies” in her purse.
Big Little Lies is a Very Big Deal. It is an epic, insanely entertaining, tremendously acted hit. It features an ensemble of women, from longtime movie stars to burning younger talents who are each Big Deals on their own (oh, and coming up in Season 2, Meryl Streep). But it represents more than that. It is, frankly, a triumph for the ladies. BLL is great work done by great women, with respect and craft, the conscious sharing of opportunity, and, most significantly, very real friendships.
The lives of the cast — Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley, and Zoë Kravitz — have overlapped in myriad ways. Nicole and Reese have a production partnership (Big Little Lies is their brainchild). Reese starred with Laura in Wild. Laura starred with Shailene in The Fault in Our Stars. Shailene starred with Zoë in Divergent. Nicole has known Zoë since she dated her father, Lenny Kravitz, 16 years ago. And so it goes. These women’s relationships run much deeper than “ensemble cast”; rather, they have influenced and enriched each other’s lives.
HBO have released some new promotional material for the upcoming 2nd season of Big Little Lies today! There are a couple of promotional videos, new stills of the cast (the Reese one can be seen in our Gallery), and very smartly designed new Instagram account!
Only 6 weeks to go til the new season – June 9th in the US and 10th in the UK…
We’re starting back at the beginning as we work on the TV Appearances section of the Gallery, and today have screencaptures and/or stills from Reese’s first appearances on US talk shows! Reese appeared on Leno and Conan in 1998, and during the latter show she talked about Pleasantville, Twilight/Paul Newman and Cruel Intentions. In 1999 she appeared on Letterman during which she talked about The Man In The Moon and her pregnancy, and then on Conan a couple of months later she was more heavily pregnant and talked about food cravings and Election. All were great interviews – Reese was so endearing in them and I loved hearing her talk about her movies!
Screencaptures and/or stills are in our Gallery, and the videos that are available online are posted below for you:
