November 13, 2011   •  Category: Role RumorsComments Off on Ryan Seacrest to Make Film Producing Debut with Reese Witherspoon

The romantic comedy is being penned by “Grey’s Anatomy” scribe Krista Vernoff.

The busiest man in Hollywood just got a little busier.

Ryan Seacrest is producing his first film, a romantic comedy with co-producer Reese Witherspoon. The still untitled project, which will be produced by Ryan Seacrest Productions and Witherspoon’s Type A Films in association with Universal, will be written by Grey’s Anatomy scribe Krista Vernoff.

Seacrest is already a major producer for Universal parent’s television division, for which he produces E!’s Kardashian franchise and serves as host and managing editor of E! News.

The American Idol host and radio star noted his desire to venture into the film world as well as the scripted TV world when profiled by The Hollywood Reporter in April. The latter became a reality when he sold a small-screen adaptation of The Nanny Diaries with Harvey Weinstein into development at ABC in August.

For her part, Witherspoon is garnering buzz for her upcoming role in 20th Century Fox’s This Means War, where she juggles relationships with two CIA agents – played by Chris Pine and Tom Hardy – who pull out all the stops to battle for her affection. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on Feb. 17.

News of their romantic comedy project comes mere days after Vernoff had sold a legal drama with a supernatural twist to CBS. The project pairs Vernoff, whose other small screen credits include Charmed and Private Practice, with producers Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly.

Seacrest, Witherspoon and Vernoff are all repped by CAA.

November 13, 2011   •  Category: Role RumorsComments Off on Reese to produce and star in “Rule #1”?

“Look at you. You have a baby … in a bar!” That line, from Reese Witherspoon’s 2002 comedy Sweet Home Alabama, still make me laugh. And now the Oscar winner might have to pretend to be kind to another baby for the benefit of a big-screen comedy.

According to a release, Witherspoon is coming aboard the feature Rule #1 with the intention of shaping it into a starring vehicle. Even better, she has signed Oscar-nominated director Courtney Hunt (Frozen River) to helm the comedy. Witherspoon has said she’ll produce Rule #1 through her Type A banner, collaborating with Brad Epstein of Panther Films and the business venture of Emmett/Furla Films.

If Witherspoon headlines the pic, she’ll play 34-year-old Diana McBride, a woman coping with her OCD who agrees to take in an unpredictable young stranger – who happens to have a newborn baby – in an effort to face her anxieties. Ultimately, McBride’s plan is to win back her estranged husband by convincing him she can handle her chaotic existence.

August 2, 2011   •  Category: Role RumorsComments Off on Reese Witherspoon Joins Disney’s ‘Wish List’

Reese Witherspoon has attached herself to star in Wish List, a Disney comedy about an overly imaginative little girl who makes ten wishes at a wishing well. They don’t come true because her coin never reached the bottom and eventually she loses her inner child and becomes a full grown and ambitious career woman. Some 25 years later, the coin is dislodged, falls to the bottom and she has to deal with the ramifications of 10 kid wishes coming true all at once. The script’s being written by Randi Mayem Singer. Wish List is being produced by Mark Ciardi and Gordon Gray, who most recently produced Secretariat for the studio. The comedy was initially developed as a vehicle for a male star, but now it’s being retooled for Witherspoon, who was last seen in Water for Elephants. She next stars in the McG-directed This Means War opposite Chris Pine and Tom Hardy for Fox. Witherspoon’s repped by CAA and Management 360, Singer by ICM.

June 9, 2011   •  Category: Role RumorsComments Off on Reese Witherspoon Attached to Star in Wedding-Themed Movie for DreamWorks

The studio has picked up the romantic comedy pitch “Who Invited Her?” about a woman who crashes a bachelor party getaway.

Wedding-themed movies are all the rage in Hollywood — see the success of Bridesmaids and The Hangover Part 2 — and now DreamWorks and Reese Witherspoon are trying a knot.

DreamWorks has picked up Who Invited Her? a romantic comedy pitch from Sascha Rothschild that has Witherspoon attached to star and produce. Gary Foster and Russ Krasnoff will also produce via their Krasnoff Foster Entertainment banner.

The story centers on a woman who crashes a bachelor party getaway.

Rothschild wrote How to Get Divorced by 30, based on her article in LA Weekly. The project is set up Universal.

Witherspoon is a producer on This Means War, in which she also stars. The movie, which also stars Chris Pine and Tom Hardy, will be released in February.

February 10, 2011   •  Category: Role RumorsComments Off on The status of “The Pioneer Woman”

Last year it was reported that Reese would be fronting a new movie entitled The Pioneer Woman, and later that year a writer was attached. However, we’ve heard nothing more about it since then, and Ree Drummond, the author of the book the film is based on, says she hasn’t heard anything either:

Ree & Reese: Ree Drummond, whose blog, ThePioneerWoman.com, led to the publication in 2009 of the best seller The Pioneer Woman Cooks, now has a best-selling memoir, The Pioneer Woman: Black Heels to Tractor Wheels — A Love Story. It lands at No. 20 [on USA TODAY’s Best-Selling Books list]. Drummond’s new book tells how she met and married her husband, Ladd. They live on a working ranch in Oklahoma with their four kids. Last year, Columbia Pictures said it had optioned The Pioneer Woman with Reese Witherspoon in mind to star. Drummond says she hasn’t heard anything since then. Is Witherspoon right for the part? Drummond says, “I’m kind of an Amazon woman compared to her, but I couldn’t be more pleased.”

Broadway, television, the music charts… What hasn’t Lea Michele conquered yet? The silver screen! Well, not yet! E! Online reports that the Glee star is in final talks to make her big screen debut in the upcoming Gary Marshall ensemble film New Year’s Eve, a follow-up to his recent hit Valentine’s Day.

Like Valentine’s Day, the new film will follow a bunch of characters as they navigate their way through one eventful New Year’s Eve. September 21, 2010   •  Category: Role RumorsComments Off on Thinly-veiled Scientology movie suddenly canned

(Speculative but interesting (and entertaining!) article!)

Have Hollywood’s powerful Scientologists killed Paul Thomas Anderson’s thinly veiled movie about the controversial Church’s founder, L. Ron Hubbard? Conspiracy theories are swirling in Los Angeles following the revelation that Anderson’s 1950s-based film The Master, starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, has been postponed indefinitely.

Anderson’s film is not officially about Hubbard and the Church of Scientology. But the similarities could hardly be more striking and the Hollywood trade papers and websites describe it variously as a satire and a parable.

Written by Anderson, who made the Oscar-winning There Will Be Blood, the script follows the rise of a religion called The Cause through the story of its charismatic leader and his apprentice.

Hoffman was due to play the Church’s founder while Jeremy Renner, who made his name in The Hurt Locker, was to play the apprentice. Most important to this story, Reese Witherspoon was reported to have been offered the role of the Master’s wife, Mary Sue.

The lead actors had already begun rehearsals and filming was due to start in August – but nothing happened.

Now Renner has told Total Film that the movie has been “postponed indefinitely at this point”. He went on: “It really kind of stalled because when we were rehearsing – Phil, Paul and myself – we kept coming up against a wall that we couldn’t overcome. Or at least Paul couldn’t overcome.”

Warner: "Uhh, ye... no..."
