Miss Reese will be appearing on a couple of talk shows in the next few weeks to promote her new movie Penelope, which will be released in the US on February 29.

MoviesOnline sat down recently with Reese Witherspoon at the Los Angeles press day for her new movie, Penelope, a modern day romantic tale about a girl coming to terms with who she is. Witherspoon produces and stars in the film which is directed by Mark Palansky from a script by Leslie Caveny. She also talks about Four Christmases, Children’s Defense Fund (in which she says she is going to New Orleans again next month), the Oscars, and so much more. Be sure to check it out!
Penelope Wilhern (Christina Ricci, Sleepy Hollow), born to wealthy socialites (Catherine O’Hara, Home Alone, and Robert E. Grant, Gosford Park), is afflicted by the Wilhern spell that can only be broken when she finds love. Hidden away in her family’s estate, the lonely girl meets a string of suitors in her parent’s futile attempt to break the curse. Each eligible bachelor is enamored with Penelope and her sizable dowry … until her curse is revealed.

It’s so nice to seem some deserved Penelope promotion for Reese!
As I posted yesterday Reese was on Good Morning America in a taped interview; view screencaps and download the video. It is a great one, and not to be missed, very insightful and funny answers from our girl! She also appeared in a fun little interview on the show Extra today; view screencaps and download the clip. Q WHAT was Reese Witherspoon like as a producer?
A SHE was there all the time. It was in the middle of the awards season, when she won her Academy Award. We were on a Vespa riding through London and she’d just won the Academy Award and everyone was just screaming at her, yelling, “that’s Reese Witherspoon”.
“Penelope” perspective: Although independent films often struggle to find domestic distribution, it’s unusual when those arrangements end and a picture winds up in the hands of another distributor.
A case in point is the romantic comedy fantasy “Penelope,” starring Christina Ricci and Reese Witherspoon and marking the feature directorial debut of Mark Palansky. Had things gone according to plan, “Penelope” would have surfaced last summer via indie distributors IFC and The Weinstein Co. Instead, its now arriving in theaters Feb. 29 from the well-funded new studio Summit Entertainment.
Produced by Scott Steindorff (Stone Village Pictures) and Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Simpson (Type-A Films) and by Phil Robertson and Chris Curling (Zephyr Films), “Penelope” was written by Leslie Caveny and executive produced by Dylan Russell. Also starring are James McAvoy, Catherine O’Hara, Richard E. Grant, Ronni Ancona, Peter Dinklage and Simon Woods. In the film Ricci plays Penelope Wilhern, a young woman whose wealthy family has since the mid-19th Century been under a witch’s curse that doomed their first born daughter to having the face of a pig.

I’ve updated the gallery with a new Penelope one sheet poster, which also features Reese as Annie.
Speaking of the film, the US release date has been changed once again. It will now open on February 29, 2008, instead of February 1. However, UK audiences will see the movie on February 1. I know I’ll be there right on the opening day. 🙂
