Reese Witherspoon has an obsession that she says has led her to some questionable behavior.

But unlike her Hollywood contemporaries, it’s not excess partying or shopping that gives her a rush – it’s garbage.

“I like to throw a lot of things away. Particularly at Christmas, it makes me a little crazy when the trash is overflowing,” she told Ellen Degeneres on an interview airing on the comedian’s talk show Thursday.

Reese Witherspoon’s Walk The Line Oscar in 2006 was the best of times, professionally, during her worst of times, personally, as she separated from, then divorced, Ryan Phillippe.

Not surprisingly, Witherspoon has mixed emotions about the nostalgia associated with Sunday night’s Academy Awards. Still, she says she’s thrilled about the emerging talents of best-actress nominee Ellen Page (Juno) and Oscar winner Marion Cotillard (La Vie en Rose).

The 31-year-old even manages to be polite, if a little caustic, when she’s asked where she keeps her own golden statue. “Well, I’ve considered making it into a door knocker or a necklace, but neither one of those options was very practical,” Witherspoon suggests. “So I just keep it in my living room.”

Nobody doubts the actress will one day have another one to keep her first trophy company. Indeed, she’s a rare commodity in the film industry: a likeable performer with artistic credibility and a sound box-office track record.

The Associated Press has given Penelope a 3 out of 4 star review! Calling the movie “spring time fresh” and hailing the entire cast including Miss Reese.

Ricci’s Penelope is such a sweetheart — yearning but realistic, cynical but hopeful — that anyone who stuck with her through even the beginnings of a conversation quickly would overlook her snout, which actually is more pug-nosed cute than bestial (Witherspoon rivals her for cuteness in one scene when she goes to a costume party dressed as a bee).

Check out the full review below:

No offense intended, but a pig snout is very becoming on Christina Ricci.

The actress is lovably adorable in the adorably lovable Penelope, a fairy-tale romance that’s a perfect mix of Ricci’s oddball sensibilities and her inherent sweetness.

There is a short video interview with Reese on People.com, check it out, the article is below. Captures and a downloadable file will come when we have time.

Reese Witherspoon and Christina Ricci have similar outlooks on dealing with very different struggles – just let it go.

In addition to producing and acting in the new flick Penelope, Witherspoon, 31, is also juggling single-motherhood. She tells the Associated Press that cutting herself some slack is the only way to get through.

She might be a tad shy about cracking the whip on set but Reese Witherspoon is every bit the shot-caller.

“I hate being in charge, so I’d say I’m more of a collaborator,” laughs the producer and co-star of the independent film “Penelope,” opening February 29.

“I don’t want to be the one to tell (the crew) that they have to stay for two extra hours or come in at 6 o’clock in the morning.”

Witherspoon’s production company, Type A Films, grossed $125 million worldwide five years ago with its first project, “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde.” Now Witherspoon, 31, is back in the producer’s chair with the magical love story “Penelope.”

“When my producing partner, Jennifer Simpson, brought me the script, I just loved the idea,” she remembers.

“There’s a great girl at the centre of the story who’s sassy and funny and smart and opinionated, yet she has obstacles to overcome.”

The romantic fantasy movie Penelope is the first film Reese Witherspoon’s production company, Type A Films, developed from the ground up. Oscar-winner Witherspoon (Walk the Line) believes producing is a natural progression for an actor, and she’s determined to continue putting out films under her Type A banner. “I’ve been on sets for 15 years now [and] just being a part of the filmmaking process you absorb so much that you don’t even realize you are looking at. Whether it is lighting, or shot composition, or casting, you realize how important every element is,” offered Witherspoon.

Penelope tells the story of a young girl from a wealthy family who’s cursed with a pig’s nose. Only when someone of her own class and status accepts her for who she is will she be free of the horrible curse. Christina Ricci plays the part of Penelope, although at one point in the process Witherspoon considered playing the title role herself. “I thought about it, but I got busy with other commitments and the movie ad to go forward. We decided to cast it, but I always knew I wanted to be in it in some capacity. It was kind of fun for me to get to play a smaller character and get to be a broad,” laughed Witherspoon.
