The 2nd episode of Big Little Lies Season 2 aired last night, and was a busy episode! The tone of this episode felt different, with explosive events and revelations filling up the episode. The focus was on Bonnie & Renata, with Madeline present throughout sorting things out for people – and then her own heartbreaking scene at the end. Again, her scene with Meryl Streep was just fantastic!
Video clips and a preview of next week (‘The End Of The World’) are below, and HD screencaptures are in our Gallery:
Reese is featured in ‘This Changes Everything’, a new documentary about the under-representation of women in media from the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media. She is interviewed within the documentary, to talk about how she “started developing these projects with smart, articulate capable women” due to the lack of projects for women. The documentary will be shown on July 22nd in New York and California – find more information at the official site. Watch the trailer below (although Reese is not featured in it):
Told first-hand by some of Hollywood’s leading voices behind and in front of the camera, THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING is a feature-length documentary that uncover what is beneath one of the most confounding dilemmas in the entertainment industry – the underrepresentation and misrepresentation of women. It takes an incisive look at the history, empirical evidence, and systemic forces that foster gender discrimination and thus reinforce disparity in our culture. Most importantly, the film seeks pathways and solutions from within and outside the industry, and around the world.
The new season of Big Little Lies premiered last night, and it did not disappoint! The characters of Monterey were back in fine form, with the addition of Meryl Streep as Mary Louise Wright. There were lots of fabulous and hilarious Madeline moments, but my favourites had to be the coffee shop scene (below) and estate agent scene – both with Meryl. Mary Louise matched Madeline’s skill in thinly veiled insults, and it was fire watching these two together!! Reese really does excel herself in Big Little Lies, and you can see why she’s so proud of it.
What did you think of the season premiere? What were your favourite scenes?
Mary-Louise: “My apologies. It’s just that I pride myself on being a very good judge of character, but you have always presented such a difficult read. You seem like a nice person – loving. But also you strike me as a ‘wanter’.” Madeline: “A ‘wanter’?” Mary-Louise: “You know, there are people in life who content themselves with what they have, and then there are others who just ‘want’.” Madeline: “I’m not a ‘wanter’.” Mary-Louise: “Oh you don’t have to take it personally, anyway I’m a ‘wanter’ myself. You know what I want? I want Perry back. I want to know what happened that night, and I’m very tempted to ask you but I doubt I would get the truth, would I?”
