The film fans amongst us will know that today is Oscar day, and while our Reese is not involved in this years ceremony (she might attend, I don’t know – I’ll keep you posted), I thought it would be fun to do something here to mark the big movie event. So I racked my brains for an Oscar special with a difference, and came up with a big Election update! Many people think that Reese was overlooked for an Oscar nomination for her performance as Tracy Flick in this movie, but not only that, it’s director, the great Alexander Payne, is nominated at this years ceremony for Best Director for The Descendants.

Reese says she has remained friends with Alexander Payne over the years, and even mentioned in her recent live iVillage chat that they had talked about working together again. Just last week she presented him with the Filmmaker Of The Year Award at the ACE Eddie Awards. Of their movie together, Reese thinks that it has a “wonderful sense of honesty and reality” and says it’s director has a “unique voice”. She recalls her casting in the movie, saying “We had this weird meeting, then suddenly, the next week he offered me the role. He’d only seen `Man in the Moon’ and he was sure I could do it! I didn’t want to call him and say, `That was nine years ago, things have changed a little.’ But it worked out.” To this day Alexander says he still receives compliments on Reese’s performance in the movie, and has said of his Election star “She’s going to be interesting for a long time”.

Tracy: “Dear Lord Jesus, I do not often speak with you and ask for things, but now, I really must insist that you help me win the election tomorrow because I deserve it and Paul Metzler doesn’t, as you well know. I realize that it was your divine hand that disqualified Tammy Metzler and now I’m asking that you go that one last mile and make sure to put me in office where I belong so that I may carry out your will on earth as it is in heaven. Amen.”

We’re sure Reese is rooting for him at tonight’s event, and he certainly deserves to be recognised for his funny, moving and relatable movie The Descendants. As well as that movie, Reese has also recently revealed that she loved The Artist and Beginners.

TRIVIA: Did you know? Director Alexander Payne wanted to associate Tracy Flick with straight lines, and Mr McAllister with circles. He admitted that he didn’t think he did that very well throughout the film.

I’ve updated the Gallery with lots of Election-related photos, including stills, posters, a promotional shoot and pictures from the premiere. Check out our still-a-work-in-progress filmography page for the movie to read some interesting trivia about the movie. And scroll further down this post for videos from a few interviews Reese gave for the movie plus a couple of trailers.

Enjoy all these Election updates! And as always, don’t be shy – if you have something to say/if you want to share your thoughts on this movie etc. then leave us a comment!

Reese has taken the This Means War promotion to South Korea, and yesterday attended a press conference and premiere with director McG. in Seoul. Reese looked luminous in a pink and black Michael Kors dress at the press conference, and was her usual animated self when talking to the press. She then posed on the red carpet and signed for fans at the premiere, wearing a Giambattista Valli dress with Neil Lane jewllery and Jimmy Choo heels. She looks fabulous at both events, don’t you think?

Check out the first HQ photos in our Gallery, and check back tomorrow for more pics, as well as any articles/interviews/tidbits and videos there may be….

Reese Witherspoon, Tom Hardy and Chris Pine talk ‘This Means War’ and their real-life competition (Q&A)

Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine and Tom Hardy star in the action comedy “This Means War” and sat down with OnTheRedCarpet.com to discuss and joke about their real life rivalry.

Witherspoon, 35, stars in the film with Pine and Hardy. The actors play two CIA agents who are best friends fighting over the same woman, played by Witherspoon. The agents wage an epic battle against one another while Witherspoon’s character tries to determine which man is a better match for her.

While their characters competed on the big screen, they joked that it carried on in their real lives too.

“Oh yeah,” Pine responded when asked if the rivalry was real. “[There were] a lot of games of Go Fish off set, just you know, Old Maid, Scrabble, Words with Friends…Cribbage, Mahjong.”

Pine and Hardy were also open about transitioning from their more action-inspired roles in “Star Trek” and “The Dark Knight” to a more light-hearted comedy.

“I enjoyed it very much,” Pine said. “I liked the fact that we had a great script that Simon Kinberg had worked on and gave us, but really the fun of it was getting to know people and kind of working off one another, taking our cue off of Chelsea Handler…She is fun to watch.

“Yeah, it’s really nice to do something where I’m not taking myself too seriously and just have light banter,” Hardy added. “I really can’t help but to default switch to being really serious about stuff. I have a lot of fun laughing, which I do normally on other films anyway, but on this I think a lot more in this aspect, with that hysterical laughter. It’s almost a little bit out of my comfort zone, but I really enjoyed it.”

The film was released on February 17 and also features comedian Chelsea Handler, actress Angela Bassett and Abigail Spencer.

Check out what else the starring trio had to say about their film and romance in general, as well as their Oscar picks and favorites.

Fox’s All Access blog has posted audio snippets from an interview with Reese, and you can listen to her talk about the following subjects at their site:

Reese Witherspoon stars in a new romantic action flick “This Means War.” When a pair of spies discover they’re both going out with the same woman. Yes, that would be Reese.which is a different kind of movie for her, but when it comes to choosing roles, she’s not scared of “different.”

Over the years, Reese has developed a reputation as a positive role model for young women. A little pressure? Sure. But she loves that she’s thought of that way.

It also includes an Oscar, for “Walk The Line.” So with the Academy Awards coming up soon, I had to ask… where does she keep hers?

Following on from the video MTV posted a few weeks ago of Reese’s first interview with them way back in 1991, Entertainment Tonight have now followed suit, posting their first interview with Miss Reese from that same year!

Reese Witherspoon finds herself in the middle of a love triangle in This Means War, and we were with the Oscar winner when she was just 15 working on her first feature film!

In September of 1991, ET caught up with confident up-and-comer Reese on the set of her coming-of-age flick The Man in the Moon, in which she plays a young girl in late 1950s Louisiana who falls for a boy three years older than her (played by Jason London) at the same time as her older sister.

Reese started acting at age seven in commercials, and by the time she was a teen the Hollywood attention seemed to be a little overwhelming.

“It’s tough sometimes, because people want to make you have these big decisions and stuff – do you want to do this script, do you want to do that? – and it’s tough,” she said, adding with a laugh, “Finally, I just kind of sit down and say, ‘I don’t know. I’m 15 years old. You figure it out for me.’ I don’t know. There’s so many things I don’t know about.”

Watch the video to hear Reese share details about her first kiss — and what she plans to do for her future kids!
