Flix666 and CinemaBlend report that Reese’s 2002 romcom Sweet Home Alabama is being released on Bluray to celebrate the film’s 10th anniversary! The bluray will hit stores on November 6th 2012. However, they haven’t put any additional extras on the bluray, and are instead just keeping the ones on the DVD:

Bluray extras:
– Eight deleted scenes introduced by director Andy Tennant
– Alternate ending with introduction
– Director’s Audio Commentary
– Music video, “Mine All Mine”

You can pre-order the bluray at Amazon.com. We have HD screencaptures from the film in our Gallery here.

In other Sweet Home Alabama news, Cinema Blend also report on another interesting tidbit about the film:

Sony Pictures had a huge weekend, with both the animated Hotel Transylvania and the time-travel thriller Looper performing better than expected to take the #1 and #2 spots at the box office, respectively. The Adam Sandler-voiced Hotel was the biggest winner by far, though, with an estimated $43 million weekend haul that doesn’t just make it #1, but sets a new September record– and knocks out a really, really unexpected champion.

When you think of movies that hold box office records, especially for opening weekend, you think of mammoths like The Avengers, or even middlebrow stuff that just happened to open in a slow period, like Cloverfield. But until Hotel Transylvania came along this weekend (article dated Sept. 30th 2012), the record for the biggest September opening of all time was held by none other than Sweet Home Alabama, the 2002 Reese Witherspoon romantic comedy that I was honestly certain nobody remembered at all. The film opened to $35 million 10 years ago, and because September is such a historically slow box office period, it hasn’t been toppled since, even by strong offerings like Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs ($30 million in 2009) and Eagle Eye ($29 million in 2008).

Earlier this year it was reported that Reese would be starring in ‘One Hit Wonder’, a musical comedy to be directed by Glee creator Ryan Murphy. Vulture.com are now reporting that Murphy is still working on the script, so there could still be life in it:

Back in February, Ryan Murphy went out to dinner with Gwyneth Paltrow, Reese Witherspoon, and Cameron Diaz, and they all decided that it would be fun to make a movie-musical. Lo, One Hit Wonders — about a handful of washed-up nineties musicians who form a pop supergroup — was born. At last night’s God’s Love We Deliver event, Ryan Murphy told us he’s still working on the script, but there is one plot point on which he is decided: M.C. Gwyneth Paltrow and D.J. Jazzy Cameron Diaz (of the infamous Chelsea Handler video) will not be making an appearance. “No rapping. No,” he said firmly. And then once more to be clear: “No. It’s much more about pop music.” Sorry, M.C. Gwyneth!

It seems that Uggie the dog can add writing to his list of many talents, as he is releasing a book about his Hollywood life, entitled ‘Uggie – My Story’. In it, he dishes about working with Miss Reese on Water For Elephants, and recalls his experiences with RPattz on the same film 😉

Reese Witherspoon: His Water for Elephants co-star loomed large from their first day on set.

“I adored her. On or off screen, the atmosphere between us was electrically charged,” writes Uggie. “Recently divorced and with two small children, Miss W was surely in need of a new leading man in her life?”

Robert Pattinson: Uggie confesses that his Water for Elephants co-star “broke into giggles” over the dog’s loud snoring. There was clearly some on-set jealousy.

“I never really got what the fuss was over Mr. P by the way (or RPattz, as his fans call him),” Uggie writes. “On any given day there’d be hordes of young female humans screaming for him at the studio gates, but the supposedly smoldering biped couldn’t even skateboard as well as me.” Meow!

Fox Buys Jill Soloway/Reese Witherspoon Working Mom Comedy

Reese Witherspoon is set to executive produce Wendy & Peter, a half-hour comedy written by Jill Soloway that has been sold to Fox. The project, from 20th Century Fox TV, centers on single working mom Wendy, who gets the hardest assignment of her life: as the right-hand woman and den mother to kid-genius tech billionaire Peter and the lost boys he calls family. United States Of Tara and Six Feet Under alumna Soloway executive produces with Pacific Standard’s Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea and Television 360′s Meghan Lyvers and Evelyn O’Neill.

Soloway, repped by UTA and Karl Austen, recently wrapped indie Afternoon Delight starring Kathryn Hahn, Josh Radnor, Michaela Watkins and Jane Lynch, which she wrote and helmed in her directorial debut. Soloway’s short film Una Hora Por Favor was featured at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.

Since its launch in March, Pacific Standard has acquired bestselling books Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn and Wild by Cheryl Strayed and recently set up Mitch Larson’s fantasy book series Pennyroyal’s Princess Boot Camp at Summit/Lionsgate. Witherspoon is with CAA and Management 360. Television 360, the TV production arm of Management 360, is a producer on HBO’s Game Of Thrones and Bravo’s It’s A Brad, Brad World.

I’m on the final stretch of adding screencaptures from Reese’s films, and today we have caps from Jack The Bear, one of her first movies, from way back in 1993 (can you believe that’s almost 20 years ago?!). This was a bizarre movie – it wasn’t at all what I expected, and it felt like 10 different movies in one, it was just all over the place. Reese only had a few scenes, and was obviously good in them … even if she did look about 5+ years older than the boy she was supposed to be dating!! I did like seeing her on screen with Danny DeVito. Still, young Reese is always fun to watch, and this was one of the few Reese movies I had never seen.

Screencaptures from the film, the trailer and the DVD menu’s are in our Gallery for you.

Just got caps from Trumpet Of The Swan and one of my faves, Overnight Delivery, still to add – woop!

September 16, 2012   •  Category: "Wild", Producing0 Comments

Cheryl Strayed optioned the movie rights for her acclaimed memoir “Wild” to Reese Witherspoon’s production company and admits it will be strange to see her story as a film — with the Oscar winner portraying her on the big screen.

Strayed will serve as an associate producer and consultant on the film adaptation, which will be written and directed by Lisa Cholodenko (“The Kids Are All Right”).

The moving memoir documents her gruelling, solo 1,770-kilometre hike of the Pacific Crest Trail from California to Oregon — with no previous experience as a long-distance hiker. Strayed makes the impulsive decision to embark on the journey following her mother’s death and the subsequent fracturing of her family and marriage — all part of a harrowing downward spiral.

“Inevitably, there are going to be scenes that are very close to the book … that they take almost exactly how it is in the book, and it’ll be very strange for me to see somebody who’s playing me. That’s the weird part,” Strayed said in an interview at Random House of Canada’s downtown offices during a promotional tour.

“I’m going to watch a famous actress playing a younger version of myself,” she added, laughing. “It’s just strange all around.”

Screencaptures from the final two episodes of Return To Lonesome Dove have now been made and uploaded to our Gallery! Reese was in these episodes less than the first two, but her fleeting scenes were still highlights and as I said before, I really enjoyed her performance as Ferris.

Screencaps from Overnight Delivery, Jack The Bear and a few from the animated Trumpet Of The Swan will be up soon to complete our set of screencaptures in the Gallery! (We are still missing Desperate Choices, but I nor our previous owners were ever able to find that – so if you can help us out with getting it, please let me know – thanks!).

Way back in 1993, Reese starred in Return To Lonesome Dove, an unapproved (by the novel writer) tv mini-series adaptation of the popular Lonesome Dove western novel series. Reese played Ferris, the young wife of powerful rancher Gregor Dunnigan. I’ve got my hands on a copy of the DVD and have now added screencaptures from the first 2 episodes.

While I didn’t particularly enjoy the series as a whole, I thought Reese put in a strong performance, and one of the most mature of her career (don’t forget that she was 16/17 when she made this!!). Her character Ferris was wise beyond her years, loyal and devoted, but also had a young and flirty side to her, and the way Reese played her made me really feel for Ferris. I’d recommend it because of adorable young Reese, and her enjoyable performance.

Browse through exclusive screencaps from the first 2 episodes in our Gallery! Caps from the 3rd & 4th eps will be added within the next few days.
