Several new cast members have been announced for The Devil’s Knot recently, including Reese’s Best Laid Plans co-star Alessandro Nivola. I thought they were great together in that film and so am excited to see them work together again.

It is also reported that the film will start shooting in Atlanta on June 24th.

Alessandro Nivola Plays Key Role In West Memphis 3 Film ‘Devil’s Knot’
June 11th

Alessandro Nivola has been tapped to star opposite Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth in Devil’s Knot, the Atom Egoyan-directed drama about the conviction of the West Memphis 3, a trio falsely accused of a triple homicide in a controversial trial that presented no physical evidence.

Nivola will play Terry Hobbs, the stepfather of one of the young victims. It’s a pivotal role in the film; Hobbs is a controversial figure who has consistently denied any role in the murders but has come under suspicion in the 20 years since the crime was committed. He has never been charged and evidence against him is inconclusive. His relationship with his wife Pam Hobbs (Witherspoon) forms the backbone of the story.

Nivola will next be seen in Sally Potter’s untitled film, which stars Elle Fanning and Annette Bening. He’s repped by CAA and Management 360.

Upon it’s release sometime next year, Devil’s Knot will be distributed in Germany by Senator Film:

Senator Film is stocking up on Gallic laffers following its success with “The Intouchables” while also betting on high-profile English-language films.

At the Cannes Film Market, the Berlin-based distrib nabbed Atom Egoyan’s thriller “Devil’s Knot,” starring Colin Firth and Reese Witherspoon, and Daniel Benmayor’s parkour actioner “Tracers,” with Taylor Lautner.

The Killing star Mireille Enos has joined Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth in Devil’s Knot, the Atom Egoyan-directed drama about the West Memphis 3. Enos will play Vicki Hutcheson, the mother of an 8-year-old boy who lives in a run-down house in West Memphis. She becomes an important witness in the murder trial of Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley for the killing of three 8-year-old boys found hog-tied in a drainage ditch. Hutcheson, it becomes apparent to investigators, could be the only link between Echols and Misskelley.

As Deadline revealed just after the West Memphis 3 murder defendants were released from prison last summer, The Sweet Hereafter and Chloe director Egoyan came aboard to direct a script that was originally written by Scott Derrickson and Paul Boardman, the team behind The Exorcism Of Emily Rose.

Devil’s Knot, Atom Egoyan’s West Memphis Three biopic starring Colin Firth and Reese Witherspoon, is moving full speed ahead.

New York-based motion picture production and investment company Worldview Entertainment will finance and produce the project, which The Weinstein Co. is debuting to foreign buyers at the Marche du Film this week in Cannes. CAA and WME are handling domestic rights.

Devil’s Knot is based on the 2002 best-seller by investigative journalist Mara Leveritt about the savage murders of three 8-year-old boys and the conviction of three teenagers accused of killing them as part of a satanic ritual. In August 2011, the defendants were released due to lack of evidence after spending 18 years in prison.

Actual defendants Jessie Misskelley Jr. and Jason Baldwin are executive producing Devil’s Knot with Worldview’s Molly Conners, Sarah Johnson Redlich, Maria Cestone and Hoyt David Morgan. Producers are Elizabeth Fowler, Clark Peterson, Richard Saperstein and Worldview CEO Christopher Woodrow.

The case of the West Memphis Three already has spawned a handful of documentaries, including West of Memphis, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January. That film was directed by Amy J. Berg and produced by Peter Jackson and Damien Echols, the third defendant.

Reese walked the red carpet at the LA premiere for This Means War last night, alongside her 3 co-stars and director McG. Reese showed off her sexy side in a black mini dress with an embellished and very low cut bodice! She paired this Miu Miu dress with Christian Louboutin Pigalle shoes, and a slight wave in her loose blonde hair. Reese looks amazing! What do you think of this look on her? Give us your fashion opinion in the comments section of this post.

So, I’ve added over 130 HQ photos from the premiere to our Gallery for your viewing pleasure. And further down this post are lots of videos with footage and interviews from the red carpet, plus a couple of articles with some quotes from Reese’s chats with reporters there.

Jump on in and enjoy, and check back tomorrow/the next few days for more pics from this premiere.

Colin Firth has joined Reese Witherspoon in Devil’s Knot, the Atom Egoyan-directed drama about the West Memphis 3. As Deadline revealed just after the West Memphis 3 murder defendants were released from prison August 19, The Sweet Hereafter and Chloe director Egoyan came aboard to direct a script that was originally written by Scott Derrickson and Paul Boardman, the team behind The Exorcism Of Emily Rose.

Firth will play Ron Lax, a private investigator who was the first pro bono supporter of the defendents as they headed to trial in 1993. Lax built one of the most prominent private investigative firms in the Southeast, and offered his services for free to the defendants, who at the time were reviled because of the heinous nature of the crime and the sensationalized reports about devil worship and ritualistic sacrifice. All of that was later proven to be unfounded, after Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley were convicted despite not a shred of physical evidence. Lax was an unsung hero and helped find the DNA in the knots that bound one of the victims, that cast suspicion on Terry Hobbs, the stepfather of Steven Branch, one of the 8-year old murdered boys. Witherspoon will play Pam Hobbs, the mother of Branch. She initially believed the trio murdered her son, is eventually persuaded that the three suspects are innocent and wrongly accused. Filming begins next summer in Louisiana, and other big names are expected to join the cast in smaller roles.

Reese Witherspoon will star in Devil’s Knot, the Atom Egoyan-directed drama about the West Memphis 3. Witherspoon will play Pam Hobbs, the mother of one of the murder victims who initially believes the trio murdered her son, but she is eventually persuaded that the three suspects are innocent and wrongly accused. Filming begins next summer.

Egoyan has spent the last six weeks working with Boardman on a rewrite. The script is based on investigative reporter Mara Leveritt’s 2003 book Devil’s Knot: The True Story of the West Memphis Three, an in-depth chronicle of the sensationalized trials that sent the three to prison for the murder of the three 8-year old boys who were found hog-tied in a drainage ditch. The project is not a rush job. Derrickson and Boardman began writing it in 2006 when the film first took root at Dimension Films. It will be produced by Elizabeth Fowler, Clark Peterson, Richard Saperstein and Boardman. Saperstein was Dimension president and he acquired the film. After he left, Dimension eventually put the project into turnaround and Saperstein became re-involved as producer. The package includes life rights deals with some of the figures in the case, and especially Ron Lax, a private investigator who has been working pro bono on trying to overturn the verdict since 1993. There are no rights deals with the West Memphis 3 defendants Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley Jr because at the time, two were serving life sentences and Echols was on death row. The plan is to finance the film independently, but the filmmakers might well make a domestic distribution deal before getting underway.
