Reese Witherspoon Is Excited for the ‘Cruel Intentions’ TV Show: ‘I’ll Be Watching!’

Daddy’s little angel, a paradigm of chastity and virtue, is ready for some naughty TV.

Reese Witherspoon, who iconically played Annette Hargrove in the classic 1999 film, Cruel Intentions, stepped out at Stand Up To Cancer’s Standing Room Only event in New York on Saturday and told ET she’s looking forward to seeing the racy drama’s television spin-off.

“I’m excited!” Witherspoon exclaimed. “Sarah’s a good friend of mine, and our kids are in preschool together, so I’m really excited. It’s a lot of the original people involved, so yeah, I’ll be watching.”

Sarah Michelle Gellar will once again portray Kathryn Merteuil in the NBC revival, which is set 15 years after the events of the film. The show focuses on Bash Casey (American Crime’s Taylor John Smith), the son of Kathryn’s stepbrother, Sebastian Valmont (Ryan Phillippe in the movie), and Annette, as he enters the world of sex, power and corruption.

Perhaps Witherspoon will get so excited that she’ll agree to a cameo in the show?

Witherspoon also opened up about what the event — which honored SU2C co-founder Katie Couric with donors American Airlines, Merck and MasterCard — means to her, and how her husband, Jim Toth, continues to inspire her to give back.

“Obviously cancer affects so many people in my life and in everyone’s lives. I mean, literally, I don’t know a person whose life hasn’t been affected by this devastating disease,” she said. “My husband lost his father seven years ago to lung cancer, and it has been a mission of his to raise as much money as possible for cancer research.”

Reese Witherspoon Showed Us How to Throw a Classic Southern Party

Another perfect L.A. day made for an outdoor get-together—warm, sunshiny, breeze rippling the backyard pool. But there’s something distinctly un–Bel Air in the air. The smell, for one thing, which is almost like…homemade biscuits. Could there be carbs on the premises? And coming from the speakers—is that Toby Keith, lamenting that if women come a dime a dozen, he ain’t got a penny?

On the patio is the smoking gun: a cauldron of hot-popping fat. A deep fryer must be grounds for a citation here in the land of sea vegetables and hemp milk. Either the apocalypse has come or there’s a Southerner in the house.

Fortunately, it’s the latter. In this case, the Southern girl is Reese Witherspoon, born in New Orleans and raised in Nashville. The actress and producer loves to throw a party, and today there’s a good excuse: She’s celebrating the first anniversary of Draper James, her line of fashion, housewares, and other little touches essential for gracious living. It’s a uniquely Southern combination of tradition (a monogrammed mint julep cup modeled after vintage barware) and humor (a tote bag that says TOTES Y’ALL, which is so popular, it’s sold out twice). “I wanted to make the kinds of things I grew up with and things that would make people happy,” she says. “Southerners don’t take themselves so seriously, and at Draper James, we didn’t want to take ourselves too seriously, either.”

Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth’s Ideal Date Night Involves Sleeping In the Next Day

Reese Witherspoon and husband Jim Toth ended their Saturday night by dancing onstage to Jamie Foxx’s hit “Blame It (On the Alcohol)” – a charity event-turned-date-night for the couple.

The pair, who served as co-chairs for Stand Up to Cancer N.Y.C.’s Standing Room Only event at Cipriani Wall Street, told PEOPLE that the party was “sort of” a romantic outing.

Then how would the actress define a real, quality date night? “Going to a nice dinner and not having to wake up at the crack of dawn with the kids,” she said. “That’s nice.”

Witherspoon, who celebrated her fifth anniversary with Hollywood agent Toth in March, and a week earlier, her starry 40th birthday party, indicated that they usually include their children in their festivities.

“They were at my party, it was really fun,” she said. “Except for the little one [son Tennessee, age 3]. We had cake with [him] the next day.”

Southern Living magazine have named Reese one of their Innovators Changing the South, saying:

Reese Witherspoon
Of course we swooned when we heard that one of our favorite actresses, one who hails from Nashville, was opening a storefront and online store. But when we saw the gorgeous pieces Draper James offers, from charming accessories and dresses to classic choices for Southern decorating, we really fell in love. Even better? Draper James prioritizes made-in-America, made-in-the-South products, and the company is continually working to make the offerings even more authentically Southern.

In a new online interview for Entertainnment Weekly, Jake Gyllenhaal talks about some of his past female co-stars, including Reese:

“I’ve never acted with her – we’ve been in the same movie but I’ve never acted with her. She is, as I would say about most of the women who I’m close friends with or had relationships with in my life, one of the smartest, strongest people I’ve ever met,” Gyllenhaal, 35, told PEOPLE and EW editorial director Jess Cagle during the latest episode of The Jess Cagle Interview.

Reese Witherspoon’s New Role: Power Broker
The actress has emerged as one of Hollywood’s most influential literary tastemakers in the book-to-screen business

Reese Witherspoon was frustrated. It was 2011, and the screenplays coming across her desk had one bland female character after another. Defined as wives or girlfriends, they were nice, respectable and, for an actor interested in character work, boring. She was drawn much more to the protagonists of the novels and memoirs she curled up with at night.

“My husband said, ‘Honey, you read more books than anybody I know. Why don’t you just option some and turn them into movies?’ ” Ms. Witherspoon recalled in a recent interview in Santa Monica, Calif.

In short order, she teamed up with producer Bruna Papandrea, launched an independent production company called Pacific Standard, and went on the hunt for challenging female characters. The pair quickly demonstrated that they could sniff out best sellers. They scooped up their first two books—Cheryl Strayed’s memoir, “Wild,” and Gillian Flynn’s thriller, “Gone Girl”—before they were published. In July 2012, just five months after the company was launched, the books hit No. 1 on the New York Times best-seller list at the same time—in the nonfiction and fiction categories, respectively. Together, the films earned three Oscar nominations and grossed more than half a billion dollars.

Since then, Ms. Witherspoon has emerged as one of the most influential literary tastemakers in Hollywood. Her regular book recommendations on Instagram send Amazon rankings soaring. At a time when book adaptations remain a crucial segment of the film industry, Pacific Standard is an increasingly important player in the book-to-screen business. She and her partner have also invited some authors to adapt their own books, in the hopes of bringing new writing voices to film and television.

Kristen Wiig Joins Matt Damon In Alexander Payne’s ‘Downsizing’ After Reese Witherspoon Exit 🙁

Alexander Payne is setting Kristen Wiig to star with Matt Damon in Downsizing for Paramount Pictures. The lead role was originally to be played by Payne’s Election star Reese Witherspoon, but she has had to withdraw over scheduling. He then locked Wiig, the former standout Saturday Night Live performer who followed Bridesmaids with The Skeleton Twins, with the Paul Feig-directed Ghostbusters coming July 15.

Christoph Waltz and Hong Chau are also set in a film that will start production in the spring. It’s Payne’s third film for Paramount, where he most recently directed the Oscar-nominated Nebraska. Downsizing tells the story of an Omaha man who joins the throngs of people undergoing a new process that reduces people to a tiny fraction of their size and who moves to one of the many communities of small people that are sprouting up around the world.

Payne is producing with Mark Johnson. Wiig is repped by UTA and attorney Karl Austen.
